  • the packaging containers in question are primarily intended for portion packagings of breakfast products, for instance cornflakes, that is that it primarily is about mi ⁇ nor packaging containers with a cubic content of about 3 decilitres - corresponding to a weight content of about 20 - 40 g.
  • the blank 2 shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is provided with folding lines 4 dividing the blank 2 into fields coressponding to the respective side portions of a packaging container, for which reason the individual fields are designated with same reference numerals as that of the respective later mentio- ned side portions.
  • the blank 2 is as already mentioned pro ⁇ quizzed from two-sided plastic coated carton.
  • the coating consists of polyethylene or a corresponding heat sealable plastic, as the fixation of the folded-up blank is perfor ⁇ med by ultrasonic welding on suitable mandrels.
  • the blank 2 is delivered ab factory as a flat tube member, formed by so-called flame sealing of an along-going welding joint between a narrow connecting panel 6 and a side edge portion of a short side 8.
  • the flat tube member is first fol ⁇ ded-up to a square tube cf. Fig. 4 by folding along the folding lines 4 between the respective short and broad si ⁇ des of the container member, of which only a top end por- tion 10 is shown, as the invention only concerns matters by closing and opening the top end portion of the container.
  • Closing of the top end portion 10 of the container member is performed by firstly folding inwards narrow side panels 12 of the broadsides 14 round the folding lines 16, as the side panels 12 at opposite ends have short 45°-folding li- nes 18. Thereafter a narrow side panel 20 of a short side 22 is folded inwards round a folding line 24 (Figs.
  • a folding line 28 is swung downwards towards the narrow, folded-in side panels 12, 20, whereafter welding sealing between lid panel 26 and the si- de panels 12 is provided by ultrasonic welding on a mand ⁇ rel.
  • the closing of the top end portion 10 is thereafter completed by folding downwards a tongue-formed extension 30 of the lid panel 26 along the outer side of the short side 22, and fixing of a narrow zone 32 between the lid panel 26 and an outermost grip tongue 34 of the extension 30 to the outer side of the short side 22 on top of the latter - by means of welding areas 36 (Fig. 6) .
  • the grip tongue 34 is folded-out from the short side 22 and is torn upwards to break the welding areas 36 - and by a con ⁇ tinuous upwards and backwards directed pull the lid panels 26 relatively easily is torn up, as the plastic coating in ⁇ side the lid panel 26 is provided with two longitudinal scratch lines 38 shown in Fig. 4, also shown in Fig. 1 , which represents a strongly enlarged vertical section through an upper side edge portion of the top end portion 10.
  • the narrow side panel 20 is just inside the short side 22 provided with a transverse scratch line 40, so that the cleavage by tearing up the lid panel 26 is started be ⁇ tween plastic coating and carton of the side panel 20 and continues by cleavaging along internal side edges of the lid panel 26.
  • the scratch lines 38 of the plastic coating at the inside of the lid panel 26 form a very moderate "opening" in the barrier of packaging container; and as it furthermore may be problematic to control the cleavage between the plastic coating and carton, if the scratch lines 38 (Fig. 7) are correctly carried out, a preferred steam tight packaging container according to the invention is in stead provided as described hereinafter.
  • the blank 42 shown in Fig. 3 is also provided with folding lines 4 diving the blank 42 into fields corresponding to the respective side portions of a packaging container, for which reason the individual fields are designated with same reference numerals as that of the respective later mentio ⁇ ned side portions.
  • the blank 42 is produced by two-si ⁇ ded plastic coated carton, for which reason the folding and fixing of the container member are made by heat sealing on suitable mandrels, as blanks 42 are delivered from carton factories as a flat tube member.
  • Closing of the top end portion 44 of the container member is performed by folding-in firstly narrow side panels 12 of broadsides 14 around folding lines 16, as the side panels 12 at opposite ends have short 45°-folding lines 18. There ⁇ inafter a narrow side panel 20 is folded-in of a short side 22 around a folding line 24 (Figs. 8 and 9), that is as de ⁇ scribed above.

  • the closing of the top end portion 44 is thereafter comple ⁇ ted by folding downwards the narrow lid panel 54 and the grip tongue 56 along the outside of the short side 22, whe ⁇ re the lid panel 54 is fixed to the outside of the short side 22 - on top of the latter - by means of welding areas 36 (Fig. 6) .
  • the grip tongue 56 is folded-out from the short side 22 and is torn upwards for breaking the welding areas 36 - and by a conti- nuous upwards and backwards directed pull the lid panel 46 is torn up relatively easy by the cleavage between plastic coating and carton of the folded-in side panels 12, 20 of the top end portion and the folded-in side panel 48 of the lid panel 46, as the side panels 48 - by being welded along the inside edges of the lid panel 46 - form a good stiffi- ning supporting that said cleavage is provided in a well- defined manner.
