Abstract

This invention relates to an automatic speed change gear for a motor vehicle, for actuating only one control element during gear change, which comprises: a clutch drum and brake cylinder, which incorporate therein a clutch and a brake for coupling and braking respective elements including a first planetary gear unit (3a) and a second planetary gear unit (3b); a second drum (19) spline-coupled to a turbine shaft (8) at the outside of a first drum (18) and a third drum (20) spline-coupled to the turbine shaft (8) at the outside of a second drum, respectively; a first brake cyclinder (22) integrally formed with a speed change gear case (5) at the outside of the planetary gear units (3a, 3b); a fifth brake cylinder (23) inserted into and fixed to the speed change gear case (5) near the outer periphery of the first drum (18); and a planetary gear unit control system composed of the cylindrical drum (18), an outer piston (31) disposed in the drum and provided with a multitude of fingers (30), an inner piston (33) disposed in the inner space of the outer piston (31), inner and outer hubs (34, 35) operated by the outer and inner pistons, for driving or braking a sun gear for the planetary gear units, and means (36) for supllying oil to the respective pistons.
