Definitions

  • the invention relates to a pipe connection of the kind disclosed in the preample to claim 1.
  • the object of the invention is to provide a pipe connec ⁇ tion for mounting on the end of a pipe so that the water piping is continuous and completely without joints, and in such a manner that a concealed installation can be effected without any risk of leakage.
  • the assembly is safeguarded against excess tightening, and thus the fitter is prevented from over-tightening the compression joint so that the compression ring or copper pipe is deformed to more than a permissible degree. Consequent ⁇ ly, full security is provided for correct assembly and, moreover, it is possible to visually check whether the pipe connection is correctly screwed together.
  • the pipe connection according to the invention can be configured as characterized in claim 8, in that the possibility is hereby provided for a complete tightening against the installation wall, also if the wall is rough or uneven, e.g. a tiled wall with joints, a painted glass fibre wall or the like in a shower cabin.
  • the pipe connection is preferably configured as characterized in claim 9.
  • the mounting plate is also used for the setting of the actual centre distance between the inlet stubs of a mixer unit, to en ⁇ sure the correct mounting in a horizontal position and, moreover, for the solid fastening of the pipe connection and therewith a possible fitting.
  • the reference figure 1 in the drawing indicates the pipe connection as a whole, said pipe connection being placed in an opening in a wall 25 for the tightening and ter ⁇ minating of a water pipe 2 of soft copper.
  • the wall 25 can be a tiled brick wall or a wall of gas concrete in which grooves or recesses have been made for concealed installation, also for the pipe 2 and the pipe connection 1.
  • the wall 25 can also be a light wall of plaster board or chip board with the pipe 2 disposed in the wall cavity.
  • the pipe connection according to the invention can natu ⁇ rally be produced in different lengths, depending on the type of wall in which it is to be placed, and in prac ⁇ tice it has proved that two types, i.e. a long model for plate walls and a short model for solid walls, cover virtually all practical purposes and applications.
  • the pipe connection can naturally also be produced for use in connection with various pipe diameters. When the pipes are copper, the most frequently used pipe dia ⁇ meters are 12 mm or 15 mm.
  • the pipe connection 1 comprises a coupling part or body part 5 which, on its outer side or a part thereof, is provided with a 3/4" pipe thread 14, and an internal thread 21 in the one end of the coupling part, namely that end on which a tap fitting 3 or the like can be mounted by means of a ring washer 18 and a union nut 4 which is screwed onto the outer thread 14.
  • Water from the pipe 2 can hereafter be led unhindered and in a watertight manner to the tap fitting.
  • the parts 3,4 of the fitting are shown sketched, in that these can natu- rally be any kind of tap fitting for a water pipe.
  • the inside of the copper pipe 2 is provided with an internal bracing bush 13, and on the outside of the pipe 2 there is provided a compression ring 8 which deforms the copper pipe as shown when the pipe connection is tightened together.
  • a threaded bush 7 Inside the forwardly-projecting part of the pipe connection there is screwed a threaded bush 7, in that an external thread 22 on said bush 7 is in engagement with the internal thread 21 in a bore in the coupling part 5, said bore being' large enough to enable the bush 7 to surround the pipe end.
  • the threaded bush 7 On its inwardly-facing side, the threaded bush 7 has an annular, inclined surface 23 which, together with a corresponding annular and inclined surface 23 on the coupling part 5, influences the compression ring 8 in a commonly-known manner, so that the compression ring 8 deforms the copper pipe.
  • the coupling part has an inclined, annular surface 20, and the threaded bush 7 has a simi- lar inclined, annular surface 19.
  • These surfaces 19 and 20 can preferably be turned and configured as shown in the drawing, so that they can be brought into contact with each other when the threaded bush 7 has been suffi- ciently screwed in, which means that the compression ring 8 has deformed the copper pipe so much that a complete tightening is achieved.
  • the end of the threaded bush 7 also has a plane surface, hereby enabling a gasket 18 to be placed here for sealing against a screwed-on fitting 3.
  • the threaded bush 7 is configured as shown in the drawing, so that it is com ⁇ pletely surrounded by the coupling part 5, and it is preferably provided with a hexagonal opening 24 to enable it to be screwed in by means of a hexagonal key (umbrako key).
  • a hexagonal key umbrako key
  • a slot or groove 17 This serves as a leakage detector, so that any possible seepage of water at the compression joint 8,13 can immediately be detected.
  • the coupling part 5 can have an internal, annular recess for a gasket 6, e.g. an 0- ring, so that any possible leaking water can only seep forwards and out through the leakage indicator 17.
  • the external thread 14 on the coupling part 5 is also used for the fastening of a sealing rose 9 which, as shown, can be provided with an annular gasket 10 of soft rubber, e.g. sponge rubber or the like, so that complete sealing against the wall 25 is achieved.
  • the opening formed in the wall 25 for the whole of the pipe connec- tion is hereby also sealed off.
  • an ornamental rosette 15 can be arranged as shown, possibly screwed on to the outer thread 14.
  • the mounting plate 11 is preferably of galavanized iron plate, which in single or double implementation ensures the mounting of the pipe connection in the horizontal position, the fixing of the tap fitting and the setting of the centre distance between the inlet stubs of mixer taps etc.
  • the mounting plate 11 can be secured in the normal manner, let into a wall or on the rear of a slab wall.
  • a spring collar 12 can be secured on an exten ⁇ sion of the coupling part 5 by means of a retaining edge 16 or the like.
  • the coupling part 5 and the threaded bush 7 will normal ⁇ ly be produced in brass by machining.
  • the parts can possibly be surface treated in a known manner.
