Definitions
- This invention relates to a machine for cutting and bending sheet material, said machine comprising a snaker built of two members and two cutting edges, one member of the snaker and one cutting edge being supported by a first beam.
- Multipurpose machines of the type mentioned above are previously known per se but such machines have mostly a relatively complicated structure simultaneously as the working table of the machine mostly is only useful in connection with the cutting or bending operation.
- One advantage of the invention as compared with previously known multipurpose machines is that the inventive machine can be shifted in an extremely simple way between cutting and bending operations simultane- ously as working table as well as stop members are at hand for both the operations. Moreover, the inventive machine is extremely simple in respect of its construction and structure and consequently economically attractive.
- FIG. 1 is a schematic front view of a multipurpose machine according to the invention
- Fig. 2 is a lateral view partly in section of the inventive machine when used for cutting plate
- Fig. 3 is a lateral view partly in section of the machine when used for bending of plate

- the inventive multipurpose machine 1 includes a frame 2 which in turn comprises two side plates 3, 4, a crossbeam 5 and an angular beam 6, said beams 5 and 6 extending between the side plates 3, 4 and being connected with these.
- the crossbeam 5 is H-shaped and supports two double-acting hydraulic cylinders 8, 9.
- the multipurpose machine 1 also comprises a hydraulic oil unit (not shown) for supply of hydraulic oil to the cylinders 8 and 9.
- a vertically movable press beam 10 is operated by means of the hydraulic oil cylinders 8, 9, the motion of said press beam being controlled by guides in the form of guide members 12, 13 arranged at the side plates 3, 4.
- a bending punch 14 is mounted at the lower edge of the press beam 10.
- a working table 21 is arranged at the horizontal leg 20 of the angular beam 6.
- a vertically movable bottom beam 24 is guided between the vertical leg 22 of the angular beam 6 and guide members arranged at the lateral plates 3, 4. Further, stop lugs 25 are disposed at the vertical leg 22.
- the motion-controlled bottom beam 24 comprises two vertical legs 30, 31 which are stayed vertically by the leg 22 and the guide members 23.
- a stiffening bar 32 is preferably arranged between the vertical legs 30 and 31.
- a bending pad 40 is mounted at the upper edge of the bottom beam 24 and an upper cutting edge 41, which preferably is somewhat inclined, is mounted at a lower edge of the bottom beam 24.
- a lower cutting edge 42 is mounted at the working table 21.
- the working table 21 has a plane 43 on which the plate to be cut is placed.
- the working table 21 is further provided with an adjustable stop member 44 for vertically staying the plate to be cut.
- the working table 21 further comprises two tip-up supports 45, 46 which can be swiveled about each their fulcrum 47 and 48, respectively, and which are intended to be raised and used in bending, as will be described below.
- a number of hydraulically operated means 50 for holding down the plate are arranged above the working table 21.
- the bottom beam 24 supports a bracket 51 which in turn supports two motor-operated motion screws 52. Said screws 52 provide the desired displacement of an adjustable cutting stop member 52 and adjustable bending stop members 54.
- the movable bottom beam 24 is connectable with the press beam 10 by means of suitable quick-locking connection means, for example in the form of rigging scews 60 (see Fig. 1).

- the press beam 10 and the bottom beam 24 are connected with each other and when the multipurpose machine is used as bending machine the press beam 10 and the bottom beam 24 are detached from each other, the bottom beam being moved to a position where its vertical legs 30, 31 bear upon the stop lugs 25 (see Fig. 3).
- the mode of operation of the multipurpose machine will be explained in greater detail in the following.
- it is desired to use it for cutting operations its bottom beam 24 is connected with the press beam 10 by means of the rigging screws 60, as shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
- Figs. 4 and 5 show schematically how the cutting operation is carried out.
- the plate 100 to be cut is placed on the cutting plane 43 of the working table 21 and moved to contact with the cutting stop member 53 positioned as desired.
- the plate 100 is fixed by means of the means 50 holding down the plate, cutting being performed by the cylinders 8 and 9 moving the press beam 10 and the bottom beam 24 in downward direction, as shown in Fig. 5.
- the cutting edges 41 and 42 will then accomplish the desired cutting.
- the press beam 10 and the bottom beam 24 are returned to their upper position after which a new cutting operation can be performed.
- Fig. 3 shows the multipurpose machine when it is put in order for carrying out bending operations.
- Figs. 6 and 7 show schematically how a bending operation is performed.
- the plate 200 to be bent is placed on top of the supports 45, 46 and brought to contact with the bending stop member 54 positioned as desired after which the press beam 10 is manoeuvered by means of the hydraulic cylinders 8, 9 in downward direction so that the bending stamp 14 in coaction with the bending pad 40 will accomplish the desired bending of the plate 200.
- the press beam 10 is thereafter manoeuvered again so that the bent plate can be removed and a new bending opera tion be carried out.
- the lower cutting edge 42 is preferably arranged so that it can be adjusted laterally. By this a desired gap between the two cutting edges can be set.
