Definitions
- the present invention relates, in general, to a disposable surface medical electrode and its manufacturing method.
- the electrode according to the invention has no wires, plugs or connection snaps. It does not require the application of a conductive product or glue activator at the time of use and does not contain foam or recesses soaked or coated with electrically conductive gel. It has the appearance and adhesive properties of a plaster or an ordinary self-adhesive dressing. It consists of a support (1) made of film or fabric coated with an adhesive which is conductive or which is made conductive (2) (FIG. 1 and 6), or an adhesive which is conductive or not (4 ), supporting a thin layer of powder or fibers or a fabric with a large mesh of conductive material (5) deposited on its surface (FIG. 4).
- the electrical conductivity of the adhesive can possibly be improved by mixing or solution of a conductive material (3) with the adhesive (2) so as to obtain a high conductivity adhesive (11) (FIG. 1 , 2, 3).
- the conductive material (3), mixed or dissolved in the adhesive (2), is preferably non-corrosive, non-allergenic and non-toxic.
- the adhesive is preferably non-allergenic and non-toxic.
- the mixture or the solution of adhesive and conductive product is made during the manufacture of the adhesive, when the latter is in liquid form. If the process turns out to be difficult, it is advisable to use a catalyst or a stain-enhancing product. This mixture or solution is made in proportions which allow obtaining the minimum resistance to electricity while preserving good adhesion.
- the electrical conductivity of the adhesive can be improved or made more homogeneous over its entire surface, by incorporating into it a very thin wick, fabric or sheet (7) of a conductive material (FIG. 2 and 3).
- a conductive material FIG. 2 and 3
- Many models, of various dimensions and shapes can be designed from this conductive adhesive sheet: Pre-cut models, pre-cut to be cut by the user and models in the form of adhesive tape to be cut by the user at the desired length.
- the connection between the disposable electrode and an electrography or electrotherapy device can be done in two ways, depending on the model: A - TYPE ADHESIVE DRESSING (FIG. 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13) or B - TYPE OF ADHESIVE TAPE (FIG. 7 and 8).
- the electrical connection wires of the device will preferably be fitted beforehand with a permanent electrode (E) or a plug (F) allowing good adhesion 4 the conductive adhesive of the disposable electrode, as well as a good contact with the conductive parts.
- the disposable electrode can be composed of a layer of soft, non-allergenic, conductive adhesive (6), a layer of aggressive conductive adhesive (11) and then of the support (1) (FIG 5).
- the support (1) of the disposable electrode may be wider in surface than the conductive adhesive so as to project beyond the edges of the conductive adhesive and a layer of non-conductive adhesive (12) may be coated on its surface around the conductive adhesive (11) (FIG. 14) or on its entire surface between the conductive adhesive (11) and the support (1) (FIG. 15).
- a first type: A - ADHESIVE DRESSING TYPE can be designed allowing the electrode (E) of the electrography or electrotherapy device to adhere to the reverse side of the disposable electrode ( FIGS. 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13) and a second type B: TYPE OF ADHESIVE TAPE can be designed allowing 4 the electrode or the plug (E or F) of the electrical connection wire of the device or electrotherapy to adhere to the place of the disposable electrode (FIG. 7 and 8).
- the electrical connection of the electrography or electrotherapy device adheres to the conductive adhesive (11) of the disposable electrode
- the disposable electrode adheres to the skin and the electrical conduction between the skin and the electrical connection of the electrography or electrotherapy device is made through the same adhesive (11 or 6) of the disposable electrode (FIG. 1,2,3,5 and 6), or through the material conductive (5) deposited on the adhesive of the disposable electrode in contact with the connection of the electrography or electrotherapy device (FIG. 4).
- part of the back of the disposable electrode may not be covered with support or the support of the adhesive may be perforated (9), thus exposing part of the conductive adhesive on the back of the disposable electrode.
- This model possibly giving the appearance of a disposable electrode whose adhesive is partially uncovered on its two surfaces: front and back.
- the permanent electrode (E) of the device adheres to the back of the disposable electrode which is applied to the skin (FIG. 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13).
- an adhesive border (10) can be deposited on the outside edge of the opening (9) of the support on the back of the disposable electrode (FIG. 9 and 10).
- a layer of aggressive conductive adhesive (8) can be placed inside the opening (9) of the support on the back of the disposable electrode (FIG. 11).
- the support (1) of the conductive adhesive (2) can be in two or more parts and alternately cover part of the adhesive upside down and part of the adhesive on the right side and each part of the support slightly protrudes from the edge of the other (FIG. 13).
- type B TYPE ADHESIVE TAPE, it has the appearance of an ordinary adhesive plaster and can be cut to the desired length. A part of the cut disposable electrode which can adhere to the permanent electrode (E) or plug (F) of an electrography or electrotherapy device then the whole to the skin (FIG. 7 and 8).
- the adherent parts of the electrode can be protected by a protective film, for the sake of conservation.
- This protective film for the adhesive can be of various shapes and can be in one, two or more parts.
