DESiGN FOR TABLE-FORK AND SPOON HANDLES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 7,446, dated May 19, 1674 application filed May 9, 1574. [Term of Patent 7 years] Forks and Spoons, of which the following is a specification:
The nature of my design. is fully represented in the aceom 'ianying photographic illustration, to which reference is made, in which Figure 1 is a front View of my design, and Fig. 2 a View of back or under side.
The stem S is gradually widened and lessened in thickness, forming the head H of an elli itical or oral sha 'ie. b is an ornamental band around the shank, eoinposed of two lines or beads, parallel on. the sides of the shank, and turned from each other on the front and back of the shank, and carried to a point in the eei'iter of the shank, as shown in the illustration. In the space on the front and back of the shank between these lines are four flowers arranged in the form of a cross, the stems pointing toward the center of the space. On the front of the handle, and occupying the whole surface of the stem, are five lines or ridges, the central line extending from the band I) to the shield E, as shown, and terminating in the lower part of the shield in an ideal representation of a flower, I, also as shown. The remaining lines extend along the border the whole length of the handle, two on each side of the one already described, each pair separating gradually as they come to the head or broad part of the handle soiliciently to give-space between them for an ornamental border, d, consisting of flowers linked together of the same general type as the one at the bottom of the shield. These lines gradually draw together they approach the end. The shield itself is plain and slightly convex on this side, with a slight head or cord around it, close to the lines which inelose it. This cord runs down to the stem and below the plain part of the shield. On the back side of the handle the stem is slightly convex and plain, except a groove on each side, which gives rise to a line or ridge on the extreme edge, which extends the whole length of the handle. The shield E, which on this side is slightly concave, has a border, d,of the same flower as shown on the front, but diii'erently arranged, as appears in the illustration. The inside of this border is bounded by a line like the border on the front, and inside this is the same beaded line or cord.
I elaiin- The design for the handles of table-forks and spoons, substantially as herein shown, and consisting essentially of the border d d, shield E E, flower l at the bottom of the front shield, the band b, and the lines on front and back, all as described and shown.
