Patented Feb. 13, 1872.
UNITED STATES GEORGE E. LEATHE, OF READING, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR SH OES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 5,541, dated February 13, 1872.
SPECIFICATION.
I, GEORGE E. LEATHE, of Reading, in the county of Middlesex and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain Improvements in the Design for Infants Shoes, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 of the drawing is a perspective view, and Fig. 2 is a top view of my design for an infauts shoe.
The nature of my dcsignis fully represented inthe aecolnpanyingsheetof drawing, in which n represents the counter of an infants shoe, the upper portion of which is cut so as to form ankle-ties b b with a stitched border. The front portion of the counter a is out out to form on each side a curved strip or band, a c, which extends forward up over the top of the vamp d of the shoe. The ends of the bands 0 c are covered at their junction by a leather or other rosette, e 0, formed with points around its circumference, and having attached above it a circular pointed metallic buckle, f, through which passes aleather strip or ribbon forming a bow, g. The top of the vamp d extends above the bands 0 c and rosette e e, and forms a tongue, h, finished with a scalloped edge and stitched border. The counter a, with its bands 0 c, ties b b, and rosette e e, are formed of leather of a difl'erent kind and color from the vamp d and how 9, thus forming a pleasing variety, and, by the shape of the band 0 0, arranged as described, strength as Well as beauty is imparted to the shoe.
Having thus fully described my improvement, what I claim as my invention is- The design of an infant s shoe, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two suberibing witnesses.
GEORGE E. LEATHE.
