Description
@cited gtstc @nient @Mire HENRY KILLAM, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
Design No. 4,435, dated October 25, 1870.
To all whom 'it may concern Be it known that I, HENRY KILLAM, of New Haven, in the county oi' New Haven aud State of Connecticut, have invent-ed a new Design for Carriage- Bed; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying photogmphicillustration and the letters of reference marked thereon, to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said illustration constitutes part of' this specification, and represents a front view.
This invention relates to a design for that part of a carriage called the bed, that is to say, the support between the body and the fifth-wheel.
Heretofore this has been formed solid, which gives to the bed a heavy and cumbersome appearance, which is overcome by my design; and
It consists in dividing the bed into two branches; one turned down onto the fifth-wheel, and the other turned upward for the support of the step.
a is the upper part of the fth-wheel.
B, the bed, is formed of iron, and, at itsbeud, divided ,into two branches, c d, the branches c turning down onto the fifth-wheel, and the branches cl up to support the step.
Onto this bed the braces D are bolted, extending onto the forward part of the body.
In illustrating this design I have shown it in oonnecton with the parts a and D, not because these parts are portions of the design, but simply that the design for the bed might be better understood, my design being confined to the peculiar shape of the bed I), as hereinbefore described.
I claim as my invention- The design for earriage-bed, as herein described and shown in the accompanying photographic illustration.
