Description

waited gisten LORENZO D. NEWELL, OF
NEW YORK, Y.
Design No. 3,960, dated April 5, 1870.
DESIGN FOR A SPRIG- OF ARTIFICIAL FLOWERS.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LORENZO D. N EWELL, of the city of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and original Design for Artificial Flowers and Leaves; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming part of this speeication.
The drawing represents a side view of a branch composed of my new artificial flowers and leaves.
This invention relates to a new design for artificial leaves and iiowers, and consists chiefly in introducing the form of a shell in the manufacture of these articles. An entirely original effect is thereby produced.
The leaves A A are scalloped at the edges, and ribbed or corrugated from the edge toward the iniddle, and bent to have their outer and upper parts project forward, as shown. They have thus the form of shells.
The leaves are secured to the stem Bin suitable manner.
The corol O of cach flower is composed of petals,
which are scalloped, corrugated, and curved, substantially like the leaves A, in imitation ol shells, shown.
The flowers are also secured to the .stein in suitable` manner.
The pistil D ol' each iiower is made of glass, with an enlarged ornamentcd lower ond, as shown.
The stamina E E are arranged around itV in the manner indicated in the drawing.
l claim as in)V invention- 1. A design for artificial leaves and flowers, consisting of a stein, B, combined with leaves A, ribbed inwardly from the outline, and flowers C, haring their petals scalloped and curved in the saine manner, each being thus made to present a shell--lilie appearance, as shown and described.
2. A design G, for a fiower, having the scalloped and curved petals combined with the relatively-arranged pistil D and stamina E, as shown and described.
