Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILSON E. SYMONS, OF SAVANNAH, GEORGIA.
DESIGN FOR A BRAKE-BEAM.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 35,033, dated September 3, 1901.
Application filed July 31,1901. Serial No. 70,429. Term of patent 14-. years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, WILSON E. SYMoNs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Savannah, in the county of Chatham and State of Georgia, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Brake-Beam, of which the following is a specification.
The present invention relates to brakebeams; and the object thereof is to provide a design that is new, original, and useful.
The principal features of the design reside in a body which is substantially triangular in cross-section and tapers from its central portion toward its ends. The body comprises a pair of walls arranged in angular relation and joined at their convergent side edges, the opposite edges being spaced apart. Transversely-disposed webs extend across the space between and connect the side walls.
Minor features of the design reside in arranging the centrally-located spaced lugs at an inclination to the side walls and in providing longitudinal feathers upon the spindles; also, in screw-threading the shanks and providing transverse sockets or openings through the body contiguous to its ends.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a brake-beam embodying the new design. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same.
Figs. 3 and 4 are cross-sectional views showing the angular relation of the walls.
The brake-beam body is designated as a whole by the reference-numeral. 10, and comprises a pair of walls 11, that are joined at their convergent side edges, as indicated at 12. Transverse webs 13 extend across the space between and connect said side walls. The body tapers from its central portion toward its outer ends, the central portion being provided with spaced lugs 14, which are located at an inclination to the side walls. The ends are formed with spindles 15, having 1ongitudinally-disposed feathers 16 and projecting shanks 17, which are screw-threaded. Transverse sockets or openings 18 extend through the body contiguous to the spindles.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a brake-beam as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
WILSON E. SYMONS.
