UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
OTTO GRUNEWALD, JR., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., AND GEORGE BASIL HOOPER,
OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY, ASSIGNORS TO THE J. L. MOTT IRON WORKS,
OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A DRINKING-FOUNTAIN BASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design NO. 34,532, dated May 21, 1901,
Application filed April 26, 1901- Serial No. 57,630. Term of patent 14 years.
T or whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, OTTO GRUNEWALD, Jr., residing in the borough of Bronx, city and State of New York, and GEORGE BASIL HOOPER, residing at Newark, in the county of Essex and State of New Jersey, citizens of the United States, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Drinking-Fountain Base, of which the followingis o a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof, in which Figure l is an elevation representing the obverse side of the base. Fig. 2 is an eleva- 5 tion representing the reverse side of the base,
and Fig. 3 is a side elevation.
As shown in the drawings, the leading or material features of our design consist of the approximately square base, the lions- 0 head medallion and leaf ornaments in the panel, the encircling horizontal rows of connected ellipses, the encirclingrow of egg-anddart ornaments with arched centers above the panel, the molded cornice with arched 5 centers, and the ornamental shape of, the
large bowl upon the obverse side.
Above the base 1, of plain surface, is a molded portion 2, encircling the base. Upon the respective sides are plain surfaces 3 and o plain panels 4. Above the surfaces 3 is a molded girdle 5, with a portion 6 of tapering form comprising flat faces and inclined and concave molding. Surmounting this portion are the ornamental connected ellipses '7, en-
5 circling the fountain-base.
Upon each side of the base there is a plain surface 8, encircling a panel 9, and within each panel a lions-head medallion and leaf ornaments 10, the upper portion of which extends above the plain surfaces 8 and appar- 4o ently beyond the panel. At the upper end is a molded cornice 11, with arched centers 12, leaving between the arched centers above the cornice a flat top 13, and below the molded cornice and the arched centers is an egg- 5 and-dart ornament 14, extending around the base, and under the arched centers over the lions-head medallion 10 upon the obverse of the base is a large bowl 15, extending out from the base, with a molded edge 16 and ta- 5o poring convex radial ribs 17 on the under surface, beneath which and coming against the face of the panel is a corbel ornament l9.
Projecting from the respective sides are the smaller bowls 20 and 21, the bowls 20 extending out from the base 1 and the bowls 21 from the molded portion 6 above the girdle 5, with the molded edge in the same horizontal line with the ellipse ornaments 7. The under convex surfaces of the bowls 20 have leaf ornaments, and the under convex surfaces of the bowls 21 have concave radial ornaments. Having described our invention, Whatwe claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a drinking-fountain base, substantially as herein shown and described. Signed by us this 23d day of April, 1901.
OTTO GRUNEWALD, JR. GEORGE BASIL HOOPER.
