WALTER S. ADAMS, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, ASSIGNOR TO JOHN A. BRILL, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A TRUCK SIDE FRAME.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 34,411, dated April 23, 1901.
Application filed November 1, 1897. Serial No. 657,113l Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern,.-
Be it known that I, WALTER S. ADAMS, a citizen of the United States, residing in the city and county of Philadelphia,State of Pennsylvania, have invented and produced a new and original Design fora Truck Side Frame, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to a truck side frame; and its essential feature resides in the design as shown.
In the drawings forming part of this speciiication, Figure lis a side elevation of my truck side frame complete, and Fig. 2 is a plan View thereof.
My truck side frame comprises the longitudinal side bar 1, with inverted-U-shaped yokes 2 extending above the bar 1, the said bar extending beyond the yokes, as at 3, the yokes having lips 4 depending below the bar. The extensions 3 of the bar 1 from the yokes outwardly take an upward direction, the ends 5 being slightly reduced in diameter, from which ends extend outwardly flat ears 6. The side bar is rectangular in cross-section and has enlargements 7 adjacent the yokes and further enlargements 8 between the yokes. Lying above and parallel with the side bar is a at bar 9, rectangular in cross-section, having adjacent its ends arch-shaped depressions 10, and at each side of the yokes the bar is also provided with further arch-shaped depressions 11 12, not so deep as depressions 10, the intermediate depressions merging into further depressions 13 of the same depth as depressions 10. From the depressions and 13 depend inverted- U -shaped yokes 14. Resting on the ears 6 on the ends of the extensions 3, at their central circular portions 15, are semi-elliptic springs 16, their arms 17 being vertically disposed and entering at their ends between the lips 18 of the yokes 14. Resting on the enlargements 7 and extending between the depressionsll 12, adjacent each yoke 2, are circular spiral springs' 19, vertically disposed, and from the bar 9, through the springs 19 and to and through the enlargements in the side bar, (the central portion 1 on the inner side of each of the yokes 2 and the extensions 3 on the outer side,) extend circular rods 20, provided with enlarged heads 21 within the depressions 11 12. Running parallel with the side bar and below it is a bar 22, circular in cross-section at 23 and flat at the ends 24, the rods 2O passing through the flat ends 24, the ends of the rods having enlarged heads 25 below the ends 24, said ends lying below the opening 26 in the yokes 2. On the ends 24 rest short dat bars 27, through which the outer rods 20 pass, the ends of the bars 27 having fiared extensions 28.
Having described my invention, I claim- The design for a truck side frame, substantially as herein shown and described.
Signed at Philadelphia, county of Philadelphia, and State of Pennsylvania, this 30th day of September, 1897.
WALTER S. ADAMS.
