In the form ot Fig. 1, the opening is somewhat contracted at its upper portion, this is done to form fixed bolster-guides 6 aclapterl to engage the colunnrguides 4: of the holster.

The spring-seat may be either form-ed. an integ'al structure as clearly shown by Fig. 5, or it may be constructed or a plurality of parts as shown in the form of Rig. 2. The spring-seat in both forms is preferably a separate casting or castings from the sideframe proper and in addition to serving as a seat forthe springs 10, the upright meinbers thereof constitute tillers or removable boister'guicles and also provide means for protecting the sidelianges 5 or the side-Walls of the bolsten receiving -opening from Contact with the holster. In aside-frame construction, a sideframe proper having a bolster-receivingopening, a separable fixed spring-seat having two upright-members extending upwardly to the bolster located in the bolsterreceiving-opening on opposite sides of a bolster, and between the bolster and the side walls ofthe opening.

5. In a side-frame construction, the combination with a bolster provided with colnmn-guides, of a side-frame proper having a bolster-receiving-opening, a separable fixed spring-seat formed w th an upright- Xnember located in the opening and arranged in contact with the column-guldes v of the bolster. v

The combination with a bolster provided with column-guides, of a side-frame formed with a bolster-receiving opening having a contracted upper portion and a lower widened portion, and an independent casting comprising a spring-seat and an upstanding member located in the widened portion and extending between, the columnguides of the bolster.

7. The combination with a bolster provided with column-guides, of a side-frame formed with a bolster-receiving-opening having a contracted upper portion and a lower widened portion and an independent castlng 1n the widened portion compris ng a spring-seat and a pair of upstanding spaced members located in the -Widened portion.
