(Apphcatlon filed F UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM JAMES LANE AND GEORGE LANE, OF POUGHKEEPSIE, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR AN AXLE-FRAME FOR MOTOR-VEHICLES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 34,327, dated April 2, 1901.
Application filed February 21, 1901. Serial No. 48,329- Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that we, WILLIAM J AMES LANE and GEORGE LANE, citizens of the United States, residing at Poughkeepsie,in the county of Dutchess and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Axle-Frames for Motor-Vehicles; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
In the accompanying drawings our design is shown in two perspectives, in which- Figure l is a view taken from above and at the right looking to the left, and Fig. 2 a view from above and at the left looking to the right.
The leading features of our new design for axle-frames comprise a steering-axle frame having a straight member and two verticallydisposed end members recessed from without inward; a driving axle frame having two straight members in the same axial line, two side members at right angles to the straight members, and a third end member parallel to the straight members and at right angles to the side members; a reach-frame having two members converging from the drivingaXle to the steering-axle, and a brace having two transversely-disposed members.
As illustrated in the drawings, the steeringaxle frame consists of a straight member A,
two vertically-disposed end members B, re
cessed from without inward, and two platelike members 0, having collars 0', located on the straight member near to its ends. The
driving-axle frame consists of two straight members D, arranged in the same axial line, two side members E, and an end member F, these three members collectively presenting the appearance of a tubular body turned horizontally forward at its center to form a rectangular portion; also,.two cup members G on the outer ends of the straight members D, and two plate-like members H, having collars H, near the outer end of the straight members D. The reach frame consists of two members I, converging from the rear axle to the front axle, and the transverse brace consists of the transversely-disposed members J.
Thereis also illustrated right-angle couplings K, interposed between straight members D and side members E; T-couplings L, interposed between straight members D and reach members I; right-angle couplings M, with forward projections, interposed between side members E and end member E; T-couplings N, interposed between reach members I and couplings M, and a pivotal coupling 0, interposed between straight memberA of the steering-axle and reach members I.
We claim- The design for an axle-frame for mot0r-ve hicles substantially as herein shown and de scribed.
In testimony whereof we affix our signatures in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM JAMES LANE. GEORGE LANE.
