ADESIGN` Patented Inky 23, I90l.
W. L. BDMAN.
VEHICLE' AXLE.
(Application filed June G, 1901.)
@WLM
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER L. BODMAN, OF BUFFALO, NEW YORK, ASSIGNOR TO JAMES B. BAYNES, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A VEHICLE-AXLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 34,829, dated July 23, 1901'.
Application led June 6, 1901. Serial No. 63,479. Term of patent 7 years.
.T0 @ZZ 20M/2.0m. it Ina/y concern.:
Be it known that I, WALTER L. BODMAN, a subject of the King of Great Britain, residing at Buialo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Vehicle Axles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part thereof.
This design relates to the configuration of an axle for wagons and similar vehicles.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a front elevation of an axle embodying my design. Fig. 2 is a front elevation of one end of the axle, on an enlarged scale. Fig. 3 is a Vertical cross-section in line 3 3, Fig. 2, looking toward the end of the axle.
Like letters of reference refer to like parts in the several gures.
The leading feature of my design consists of the peculiar form of the junction of the axle-body with the collar at the inner end of the axle-arm, which junction is s0 shaped that the lower line of the axle-body starts directly from the lower edge of the collar and extends upwardly and inwardly at an acute angle to the upright inner face of the collar, while the upper line of the axle-body starts in a similar manner from the upper edge of the collar, so that the end of the axle-body is joined directly at an oblique angle to the upright inner or rear face of the collar.
Referring to the drawings, A represents the body 0f the axle, B the collars, and C the axlearms.
d represents the inner upright face of each collar; e, the lowerline of the axle-'body,which is joined at an acute angle to this face, and f the upper line of the axle body, which is joined at a corresponding obtuse angle to said face.
As clearly shown, each end portion of the axle-body stands at an oblique angle to the inner face of the adjacent collar and is directly joined to the same without the inter- Vention of an intermediate neck or other part.
I claim as my invention- The design for a vehicle-axle, substantially as herein shown and described.
Witness my hand this 3d day of June, 1901.
WALTER L. BODMAN.
