UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
LOUIS P. TALBOT AND JOSEPH TALBOT, OF FALL RIVER, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A MEMBER FOR COMBINATION-TOOLS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 34,322, dated April 2, 1901.
Application filed March 1, 1901. Serial No. 49,516. Term of patent '7 years.
To @ZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, LOUIS P. TALBOT and JOSEPH TALBOT, citizens of the United States, residing at Fall River, in the county of Bristol and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Member for Combination-Tools; and We do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear,
.and exact description of the invention', such Io as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to designs for combination-tools, and the leading feature ofthe design is a member for a combination-tool I5 having a wrench in the end of the handle, a Wrench in the inside of the handle, a punch on the inside of the handle, a raised portion to receive the cooperating member of the tool, a Wire-cutting notch and a jaw having a flat zo plier portion, a serrated pipe-wrench portion,
and a long thin nose or tip.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l is a plan of the member embodying our new design. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same.
The member comprises a handle having an approximately circular end A, containing a square notch a, opening at the end of the handle, and having its sides slightly oblique to the longitudinal axis of the tool.
3o Joined to the circular portion A by easy curves a is a portion B, having a nearlystraight outer edge b and a rounding inner edge b running into a portion b2 parallel with the upper end of the outer edge b. In the inner edge b is a square notch b3, open on the inner side of the handle, with its sides at substantially right angles with the edge b.
Succeeding the portion B is a portion C of about the same width, but offset at c toward the inner edge of the handle. The portion C 4o has a round boss c, from which a substantially frusto-conical projection D extends inwardly at about right angles with the handle.
Next to the portion C is a portion E, ellip tical in shape with liattened sides e e and offset from the end of the portion C, which abuts against it at such a point that one side e of the ellipse is a continuation of the outer edge of the portion C. The ellipse is but half as thick as the handle, one face being flush with 5o one side of the handle. A notch e2 is cut in the lower end of the ellipse in line with a hole e3 at the center of the ellipse.
Extending from the upper end of the ellipse is the jaw portion F, the inner edgefof which is straight and lies in line with the major axis of the ellipse and contains a curved serrated notch f'. The outer edge f2 of the jaw portion is also straight and lies in line with the side e of the ellipse, approaching the edgef 6o to form a thin nose or tipfs. The jaw portion is of substantially the same thickness as the handle portions.
.Having thus described our invention, what we claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a member of a combinationtool, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof we affix our signa- 7o tures in presence oftwo Witnesses.
