DESIGN FOR A MOUTHPIECE FOR PREVENTION OF MOUTH-BREATHING.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 32,565, dated April 24, 1900.

lie it known that I, JOSEPHUS liooPER, a citizen of the United States, and a. resident of Louisville,in the county ofJefierson and State 5 of Kentucky, have invented and produced a certain new and useful Design for Monthpieces for Prevention of Month-Breathing; and I do hereby declare that the following is such a full, clear, and exact description of the same as will enable others skilled in the art to which the invention relates to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.

:5 In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of the device looking from the rear side. Fig. 2 is a vertical cross-section through the center of the same. Fig. 3 is a horizontal longitudinal section taken at right angles to the line of section of Fig. 3.

The device consists of a thin soft flexible membrane or diaphragm made of some material impervious to air and moisture and in tended to be placed between the lips and the front teeth of such persons as have the habit of breathing through the mouth. It is molded or shaped to conform to the general outline of the gums and teeth, and consists of an approximately-oval piece of the described material which is curved in the direction of its length, as best shown in Fig. 3, and in the direction of its width, as represented in Fig. 2.

Referring again to the views of the drawings, A indicates the device as a whole, and a denotes the membrane or diaphragm composing it. As shown in the sectional views Figs. 2 and 3, this diaphragm is thinner to ward the edges than in the middle, and its ends are narrower than the body portion by reason of the curvilinear formation of the top and bottom edges of said ends, as clearly illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2.

The letter d indicates a projection extend ing outward from the front central portion of the same and forming a convenient point of attachment for a string which may be secured to the person or clothes of the wearer.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim is The design for mouthpieces for prevention of mouthbreathing herein shown and described.
