ffiiesses fivenfir M UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
\VILLIAM \VELIIINGTON KNIPPLIC, OF EIAVIN, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A HOLDBACK.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 31,979, dated December 2, 1
Application filed November 14, 1899. SerialNo. 736,992- Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, WILLIAM WELLINGTON KNIPPLE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Elwin, in the county of Macon and State I 5 of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design fora lloldbaok; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings,
forming a part thereof.
This invention relates to an original design for holdback-irons; and it consists in the configuration and arrangement hereinafter described, and shown in the accompanying drawings.
The invention is designed for application to the thills of a vehicle, and the casting is so fashioned that the necessary straps may be applied.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of theiron. Fig. 2 is an edge view, and Fig. 3 is an end view.
A designates a curved plate having tapered ends B B.
C designates a frame springing from the side edge of the plate between one end and the central plane, the same being substantially of rectangular formation. This frame 0 extends outward at an oblique angle, and
its outer bar is of a length greater that that of the end bars, as shown.
On the under face of the plate A is, approximately at its center, an outwardly-extending oblong frame D. This frame extends transversely beyond the edge of the plate at one side, and its end bar at that side springs from the innermost end bar of the rectangu lar frame C.
Suitable openings (L are formed in the ends of plate A. The plate is also somewhat thickened at a on one side.
The essential features of the design reside in the curved plate, with the frame extending from one side and the frame springing from the top or crown of the plate extending transversely across the same.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a holdback-iron, substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
