MTUBSSES';
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
'I'IORATIO S. \VINN, OF SAN FltAXt'ISU), CALIFORNIA.
DESIGN FOR A BADGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 31,343, dated August 8, 1899.
Application filed July 17,1899. Serial 170724.197. Term of patent 31+ years.
To It whom it may llllll'll'll,
Be it known that I, IIORA'IIO S, W INN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing in the city and county of San Francisco, in the State of California, have invented and produced a new and original Design fora Badge, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof.
As shown in the single figure of the draw ing, the leading or material features of mydesign consist of a medal of octagonal shape in outline, with a circle inscribed within the octagon, the field of which is divided by five smaller circles of uniform diameter into a corresponding number of medallions, the diameter of each circle being about equal to the radius of the larger circle within which they are inscribed. Four of these circles are arranged at equal distances apart in the form of a quatrefoil, and the fifth circle is placed in the center, partly overlapping the four circles. In this center circle is displayed the portrait of Willard Parker, while the four surrounding medallions contain the emblems and symbols of the organization known as the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, in the following order: On the field contained in the top circle is represented the All-Seeing Eye, beneath the three links. The left-hand circle contains a representation of a tent, the emblem of the Encampment branch of the order. In the right-hand circle is the crossed swords and crown, the emblem of the military branch of the order, and the lowest circle is a representation of Abraham and Rebekah at the well, the emblem of the branch of the said order known as the Daughters of Rebekah." The sector-shaped spaces between theqnatrefoiland the surroundinglargecircle contain ornamental sprays and leaves, and the space between that circle and the octagonal margin is separated by ornamental flowers and tendril ornaments into panels fol-lettering and inscriptions. The topmost straight side or edge of the octagonal that stands horizontally when the medal is upright is surmounted by an eagle in sitting attitude with spread wings. The octagonal medal composed of these parts and features is suspended from a head-bar composed of a long and relatively narrow tablet attached to the crest by links, and the bar is surmounted bya California bear.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a badge as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal.
IIORATIO s. WINN. n sq] Witnesses:
EDWARD E. OSBORN, M. REGNER.
