DESIGN FOR A BACK FOR BRUSHES OR SIMILAR ARTICLES.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, THEODORE W. Fosrnn, of Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Backs of Brushes and Similar Articles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying draw ings, forming part thereof.
- Figure 1 is a view of a brush, showing my design. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same on the line X X of Fig. 1
The leading features of my design consist in the raised foliated scrolls extending from the oval margin across a fillet parallel with the margin and raised floral garlands depending from scrolls, and the handle consisting in part of a straight many-sided shaft terminating at the opposite ends in foliated scroll ornaments inclosing panels.
In the drawings, A indicates the body of the brush, and B the handle; a, the slightly convex surface extending along the sides of the approximately oval back of the brush; 1), a fillet parallel with the margin of the oval back; 0 c, scrolled leaves extending from the margin diagonally inward over the fillet;
d d, scrolls from which the floral garlands extend in curved lines; f, a pyramidal group of flowers into which the pendants of the gal lands 6 6 merge; g, the straight shaft of the handle, consisting of a number of flat strips or facets extending lengthwise on the shaft; h, a beaded ring extending around the end of the faceted shaft g; t', a scrolled ornament inclosing the panel 2"; 7c, the foliated crest at THEODORE \V. FOSTER.
