THEODORE NV. FOSTER, OF PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND.
DESIGN FOR A BACK FOR BRUSHE OR SIMILAR ARTlCL ESa SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 34,953, dated. August 20, 1901.
Application filed July 19, 1901. Serial No. 68,980. Term of patent 7 years- To all whom it may concern.-
Be itknown that I, THEODORE W. FOSTER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Providence, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Back of a Brush or Similar Article, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1 is aplan View, slightlyin perspective, of the back of a brush, showing my new design. Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same, taken on the line XX of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a transverse section on the line Y Y of Fig. 1.
As shown in the drawings, the leading and material feature of my design consists of raised ornamentations extending from the end of the handle in a loop formed of curved, twisted, and scrolled stems and leaves interspersed with flowers having 1'adial1y-extending curved-and scrolled leaves and at the junction of the oval back with the handle the raised representation of a female head with flowing hair and in proximity therewith two groups of birds. The foliations and flowers forming the border inclosing the central panel present the conventional appearance of scrolled and twisted cactus-leaves interspersed with flowers.
Having thus described myinvention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for the back of a brush or similar article, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
THEODORE W. FOSTER.
