DESIGN FOR A TOOL-HEAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 30,618, dated April 25, 1899.
Application filed March 29, 189 9. Serial No. 711,022. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it "Lay concern:
Be it known that I, JOSEPH HERFERT, a citizen of the United States, residing atTucker, in the county of Cowlitz and State of Washington, have invented and produced a new nd original Design for a Tool-Head, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for a tool-head; and it has for its object to provide a design of this character that shall be both useful and ornamental.
The leading feature of the design resides in a tubular shank provided with an exterior polygonal surface and having extended from one end thereof a dovetail-shaped fiat blade tapering to a straight cutting edge and having the wide flat faces and the narrow side edges thereof merging into the contiguous flat faces of the shank.
The minor features of the design are the tubular shank provided with an interior cylindrical tapered or conical socket and longitudinal bevels located at the corners or angles of the exterior polygonal surface and continued along the side edges of the dovetailshaped blade portion. I
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the tool-head embodying the design contemplated by this invention. Fig. 2 is a side View thereof. Fig. 3 is a longitudinal sectional view of the same. Fig. 4isacrosssectional view on the line 4 4 of Fig. 3.
Referring to the accompanying drawings,
the numeral 1 designates the tubular shank of the tool-head, which shank is provided therein with an interior cylindrical tapered or conical socket 2. The said shank is fur ther provided with an exterior polygonal surface having a plurality of fiat faces 3 and longitudinal bevels 4 at the corners or angles of said faces.
The tubular shank is exteriorly tapered toward the solid or cloed end thereof, and from this end is extended a dovetail-shaped flat blade 5. The fiat blade portion 5 or extension of the tubular shank is tapered to a straight transverse cutting edge 6, disposed at right angles to the longitudinal plane of the tool-head. The wide flat faces and the narrow side edges of the said flat blade 5 merge into and form direct continuations of the contiguous flat faces of the shank, and the longitudinal bevels 4 at the corners of the latter are also continued into the side edges of the blade.
