UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JUGENE P. MIX, OF NEWARK VALLEY, NEW YORK.
DESIGN FOR A TREE-TRIMMER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 29,736, dated November 29, 1898.
Application filed November 5, 1898- Serial No. 695,626. Term of patent 14 years.
To aZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, EUGENE P. MIX, a citizen of the United States, residing at Newark Valley, in the county of Tioga and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Tree-Trimmer, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for a tree-trimmer; and it has for its object to provide a design of this character which shall be both useful and ornamental.
The leading feature of the design resides in a triangular knife-blade having beveled cut-ting edges on both of its inclined faces anda supporting-shank connected to and alining with the base of the blade and provided with a straight guide extension projecting beyond one side of the blade.
WVhile the essential or characteristic feature of the design resides in the straight supporting-shank with a guide extension at its outer end and the triangular knife-blade attached to the shank at its base and projecting laterally therefrom in a direction at right angles to its length, still the design embodies other minor features, which are the straight guide extension of the shank being provided with a tapered point and an elongated cylin-v drical handle extension or pole joined to and extended from one end of the shank.
In the drawing the figure is a front elevation of a tree-trimmer embodying the design contemplated by the present invention.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates a straight supporting-shank, having joined thereto at a point intermediate its ends a triangular knife-blade 2. The triangular knife-blade 2 is joined to the supporting-shank 1 at its base and projects from the shank in a direction at right angles to the length of the latter, and the said triangular blade 2 is provided with duplicate beveled cutting edges 3 on both of its inclined sides. The outer terminal portion 4 of the supporting-shank 1 projects a material distance beyond the blade and forms a guide extension of the shank, said guide extension 4 being provided atits outer end with a tapering point 5. At its end, opposite the guide extension 4 thereof, the supporting-shank 1 has joined thereto one end of an elongated cylindrical handle extension or pole 6, which, together with the other parts described, completes the entire design for the trimming implement.
What is claimed is The design for a tree trimmer, herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto affixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
EUGENE P. MIX.
