Description

J. M. HELGE., Pruning Knife.
No. 201,782. Patented Marc-h 26', 1878i.
N. PETERS, FHOTOLITHOGRAPHER. WASHINGTON. D C.
UNITED STATES PATENT CFFICE.
JOHN M. HELCK, OF OALLIGOON, NEW YORK.
IMPROVEMENT |`N PRUNlNG-KNIVES.
Specication forming part of Letters Patent No. 201,782, dated March 26, 1878 application led September 21, 1877.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN M. HELGK, of Oallicoon, in the county of Sullivan and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pruning-Knives; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which form a 'part of this speciiication.
This invention relates to pruning-knives, having for its object to improve the construction of the same, and thus provide a knife which shall be simple in construction and of convenient Ilform and easily sharpened, and which will operate efficiently in use and it consists in furnishing apruning-knife having two upper cutting-surfaces, each bein g on an incline and meeting at a point in the center, and two under curved cutting-surfaces, curving from the outer sides in to the handle, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
In the annexed drawings, Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a device embodying my invention, showing the handle in dotted lines and Fig. 2, a section of the same, taken on line x a' of Fig 1.
A represents the blade, and B the handle, (represented in dotted lines.) The upper portion of the blade is provided with two angular cutting-surfaces, a a, running from points d d outside upward to a point, c, in the center, at an angle of ninety degrees, so that the upper part of the knife, when in use, has a drawing cut. The lower part consists of the base e, being the Width of the handle B, and nom each side of said base commences the curved cutting-edges b b, extending upon a curve upward and outward to the points d d, which form a junction between the curved and angular edges. The curved cutting-edges are arcs of circles, so that in use the cutting is smooth and equal, both in regard to the strength required and character of the work.
The edges forming the cutting-surface are beveled from one side of the knife to the other.
Having thus fully described the invention, what is claimed as new, and desired to be se cured by Letters Patent, is-
The pruning-knife herein described, having beveled angular cutting-edges a a., meeting at the center c, and the curved beveled edges b b, extending from the handle to the points d d, all constructed as and for the purpose set forth. Y
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own Ihave hereto aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
y JOHN M. HELCK. Witnesses:
