Description
' C. M.HYER. WOOD-WORKERS FLOAT.
'No. 194,967. Patented Sept.11,1877'.
FFG 11 CHARLES M. HYER,-OF IOWA FALLS, IOWA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WOOD-WORKERS FLOATS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 194,967, dated September 11, 1877; application filed February 2, 1877.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, CHARLES M. HYER, of Iowa Falls, Hardin county, in the State of Iowa, have invented an Improved Float for the Use of Wood Workers 5 and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, in which Figure l is a top view of the tool. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the same.
The object of my invention is to provide a tool something after the size and shape of a wood-rasp, but yet that cuts as a plane-bit, and does not abrade and leave a roughened surface; and my invention consists in providing one side of a blank with a series of diagonal two-faced cutters or blades, decreasing in size from the handle toward the point of the tool, each of the two sets of faces being in parallel planes, and one set diagonal to the longitudinal plane of the blank, and the other perpendicular thereto.
In order that those skilled in the art may make and use my invention, I will proceed to describe the manner in which I have carried it out.
In the said drawings, A is the handle-tang ot' the tool, and B its end. One face, a, is flat and the other face is provided with a series of diagonal cutters or blades, b b, decreasing gradually in size toward the end B, and provided with one straight face, 0, and one diagonal face, i, meeting and forming a cutting-edge. edge makes a draw-cut, and shaves off the wood smoothly, and leaves the surface without roughness.
I am aware that files have been used with diagonal teeth, the distance between the same gradually decreasing, and files with a series of teeth across their faces. These, however, do not present the novel feature of my invention, as my invention is provided with single series of diagonal teeth extending entirely across the face of the tool, the object of which is to obtain a single smooth out of each tooth without any cross-cut, and whereby no ridges are left in the work.
. Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, the woodworkers float herein described, having single series of two-faced cutters, each cutter extending entirely across the face of the tool, and gradually decreasing in size toward the end, constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
