Description

I UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE GUSTER, OF WHITNEY, TEXAS.
FILE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 295,487, dated March 18, 1884. i
Application led November 2, 1883. (No model.)
To all whom may concern.:
Be it known that I, GEORGE OUsTER, a citi. zen of the United States, and a residentof Whitney, in the county of Hill and State of Texas, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Files, and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, which will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and in whichl Figure 1 is a side view of my improved file. Fig. 2 is an edge view of the same. Fig'. 8 is an edge view ofthe edge opposite to that shown in Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the iile.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the figures.
My invention has relation to files; and it consists in the improved construction of the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying drawings, A represents the file proper. The teeth upon the sides of my improved le are cut in such a manner that they extend only half-way across the width of the le, the inner ends of the teeth meeting at an angle at the center of the width of the blade. By this arrangement of the teeth the le is made a self-cleanerfthat is to say, it clears itself of its own dust or chips. One
edge ofthe tile (that edge shown in Fig. 3) is provided with a series of ordinary straight cuts or teeth, while the other edge is preferably made somewhat rounded, and provided with a series of longitudinal cuts or teeth, as shown in Fig. 2.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction of my improved iile will readily be understood without requiring 'further explanation. By constructing the lile-blade with the longitudinal teeth on its. edges the operator can use the iile for fine work, &c.
Having thus described myinvention, I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United Statesl; A iile. provided with longitudinal teeth upon one or both of its edges, as described.
2. A file having the teeth upon its sides so cut that they extend only half-way across the width of the iile, the inner ends of the said teeth meeting at an angle at the center of the width of the blade, as and for the purpose shown and set forth.
3. A file provided with longitudinal teeth upon one or both of its edges, and having the teeth upon its sides so cut that they extend only halfway across the width ofthe ijle, the inner ends of the said teeth meeting at an angle at the. center of the width of the blade, constructed and arranged to operate substantiallyin the manner and for the purpose shown and set forth.
In testimony that/'I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereunto affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE CUSTER.
