WOODWORKING-TOOL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 28, 1913.
Application filed July 17, 1911. Serial No. 638,946.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1,. ALEXANDER O. TrIoMAs,a citizen of the United States, residing at Houston, in the county of Chickasaw and State of Mississippi, have invented edge. r lVith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described andclaimed, changes in the precise embodiment of the .invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention. a
In the accompanying drawings the preferred. form of the invention has been shown.
v In said drawings z-Figure I is a perspective view of the tool. Fig. '2 is a section on line A-B Fig. 1.
Referring to the figures by characters of reference 1 designates a semi-elliptical blade the terminals of which are reduced to form stems 2, these stems being preferably bent or folded to form elongated loops 3 constituting eflicient handles. It is to be understood, however, that wooden handles or any other'types of hanit being-understood that and parallel if preferred I dles may be secured to the stems 2. The
upper and lower faces of the blade l'are parallel and the lower portion of the lower blade is beveled to form the inner or cutting edge of the blade and both of said faces are inclined downwardly relative to the plane occupied by the outer edge of the blade. This will be clearly apparent by referring to Fig. 2.
As/the blade has a cutting edge curved from end to end and lying in a plane parallel to that in which the stems or handlesv 2 are located, it, will be apparent that when the tool is placed upon stock to be shaped and is pulled toward the operator, the
curved edge willcut the stock so as to produce a rounded surface thereon. When it is desired to sharpen the tool,
the cutting edge 4; thereof is placed fiat upon a sharpening stone and the tool is then reciprocated upon the stone and all portions of the cutting edge will thus be simultaneously acted upon. It will thus be apparent that cutting edge 4 is always flush with the upper surface of the blade 1. What is claimed is:- A woodworking tool formed in a single piece of metal and including an arcuate blade, and handles extending from the ends the upper and lower faces of of the blade, the blade being inclined downwardly and inwardly from the blade and merging ting edge extending to form an arcuate cutcontinuously from one end to the other of the blade and having all points thereof located in a plane below with the plane occupied by the handles. In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto afiixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
