Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN F. WHEELER, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN, ASSIGNOR TO THE WVIIEELER SADDLE COMPANY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A BICYCLE-SADDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,435, dated March 29, 1898.
Application filed August 9, 1897. Serial No. 647,637. Term of patent 7 years.
To ctlZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. WHEELER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne, State of Michigan, have invented and produced a new and original Design for a Bicycle-Saddle, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and original design for bicycle-saddles; and it consists in the formation and contour illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a perspective view of my design for a bicycle-saddle. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 3 is a transverse section looking rearwardly on line 3 3 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the design.
The leading feature of my design consists in a trilateral bipennated figure comprising a'rounded pommel A, having curved depending members D, and two opposed winged members B, substantially biconvex in cross-section and separated by a dividing depression formed in the opposite faces of the saddle, which extends between said members from the rear, producing a design comprising two curved, rounded, independent, flaring wings, separated at the rear and united by a rounded nose or pommel, into which said wings con verge.
The sides and forward portion of the design describe an ogee curve, as at a, at which point the lines of the contour of the design curve outwardly and from which point said lines extend forward approximately parallel, as at b, and unite at the forward curve I) of the pommel A. The rear portions of the opposed wings describe semicircular curves 0, which converge and terminate at a point d, at which terminal at said curves efiect a union with the curved lines 6, which describe the margin of the flaring oblong central depression G, extending longitudinally of the design between the rounded wings B and opening from the rear. Uniting the rear of the divided wings B is an inwardly-deflected curved line f.
The general form of the saddle in side elevation is concave-convex.
What I claim is The design for a bicycle-saddle substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN F. \VI-IEELER.
