Description

PESENS 8 6 DESIGN.
A. R. PONTES. GARDEN IMPLEMENT.
No. 28,273. Patented Feb 8,1898,
I f I 26 m fi/m fill/ATTORNEYS UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ANTONIO R. FONTES, OF OAKLAND, CALIFORNIA.
DESIGN FOR A GARDEN IMPLEMENT.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 28,273, dated February 8, 1898.
Application filed August 31, 1897. Serial No. 650,197. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTONIO R. FoN'rEs, a citizen of the United States, residing at Oakland, in the county of Alameda and State of California, have invented a certain new and original Design for Garden Implements; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same.
This invention is a new and original design for garden implements, or more particularly that class of devices known in'the art as combination tools or implements.
In the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, Ihave clearly illustrated the invention in the following figures:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the implement. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of same. Fig. 3 is a front elevation or one taken at right angles to Fig. 2. These three views are deemed necessary to fully illustrate my design.
The leading features of my design consist in a central approximately straight shaft or stem with a gracefully-formed prong and a trowel-blade curving outward and inward in opposite directions from one extremity of said stem.-
Referring now to the several parts of the above drawings by letter, A represents the shaft or stem of the implement and gradually tapers toward one extremity, while its opposite extremity separates into two members B and O, which gracefully curve outward and backward in opposite directions. The prong B is formed somewhat in the manner of the stem A, with a small diameter or cross-section, and gradually tapers toward its outer extremity, where it terminates in a sharp point b. The opposite member 0 spreads out into the form of a trowel-blade 6, whose opposite edges gracefully curve and converge toward the point f, while the faces of the blade follow the curve originated in the member 0, which is approximately similar to the curve of the prong B.
By viewing Fig. 2 the implement presents to the eye two gracefully-curved branches uniting to form a central shank somewhat in the form of an anchor, while aview taken at right angles to the above, as shown in Fig. 3, brings out the graceful outlines of the trowelblade crowned by the delicately-formed prong.
What I claim is v The design for a garden implement substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ANTONIO R. FONTES.
