Description

GEORGE WILSON, O F WARE, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR- TO OTlS COMPANY. Design o. 2,812, 'dated October 22, 1867.
DESIGN POR A TRADE-MARK.
'1 0 ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN:
Be it known that I, GEORGE WILSON, of' Ware, in the county ot' Hampshire, and Commonwealth of Massachusetts, have originated and produced a new Design for a Trade-Mark, of which the following is a full, clear, and'exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, which is a plan view of said design.
The said design is intended to be used and applied as a trademark to designate a certain manufacture and quality of hosiery, as indicated by the words which make a part oi said design. y The whole design being engraved in -wood or metal, an imprint thereof in any desired color can then be made upon such hosiery, or upon VJthe labels marking the same.
An annular space,f, enclosed by the double border lines a and a", contains the words, The People's Stocking, printed therein in Roman capital letters, such Words being placed upon or in the arc of a circle, which is also concentric with the circular bordering lines which enclose the space f, and being extended over aboutitwo-thirds ofthe length of' such annular space. A device, represents one side of an ornamental buckle, with a portion of the tongue, the holes for the insertion of said tongue being formed at e e. A strip, c, is shown as passing obliquely across the annular space f, the curve and direction of the side lines of said strip at the ends indicating that the strip passes behind the face of the bordered annular ring, which latter is thus made to bear some resemblance to a buckled garter or strap. A trefoil device, d, projects below the edge of the bordering lines a', apparently pendent from one end of the strip c.
I do not claim as new a device representing or resembling a buckled strap, as considered apart from the words printed in the annular space f; but I believe said device, formed as shown and described, and having the words, The People's Stocking, printed therein in Roman capitals, the whole being placed and arranged substantially as described, to be novel as a. design for a trademark, while it will be ornamental to the manu` factured articles upon which it is imprinted.
What I therefore claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
The design for a trade-mark herein set forth and shown.
GEORGE WILSON.
