DESIGN.
J. SERSON. BICYCLE SADDLE.
Patented Dec. 7, 1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOSEPH SERSON, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO JAMES CISLER, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR A BICYCLE-SADDLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,956, dated December '7, 1897.
Application filed November 8,1897. Serial No. 657,888. Term of patent '7 years.
To (all whom, it may concern.-
Be it known that I, JOSEPH SERSON, a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced anew and original Design for Bicycle-Saddles, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accom panyingdrawings, in which- Figure 1 represents a side elevation of a bicycle-saddle embodyi ng my design, and Fig. 2 a plan view of the same.
The leading feature of my design is the conformation of the cantle portion of the saddle, which is curved upward relatively to the body portion of the saddle, so that said cantle portion lies in a plane substantially at right angles to the plane of the body portion and extends a distance above the same substantially equal to the length of the body portion of the saddle when the ponnnel thereof is omitted from consideration.
A indicates the body portion of the saddle, and B the can tle thereof. These two portions of the saddle when viewed in plan have approximately the outline of an ellipse having its major axis transverse to the longitudinal axis of the saddle, the forward portion of the body being gradually contracted by reverse curves to form the extended neck-like pommel C. The cantlc portion of the saddle is 30 joined to the body portion by a curve, the axis of which is transverse to the saddle, and said cantle portion extends upward a considerable distance above the body portion, this distance being substantially equal to the 3; length of the body portion minus the pommel. The plane of the body of the cantle portion is in a position substantially at right angles to the plane of the body proper of the saddle. The lateral edges of the saddle at 40 those portions thereof where the cantle and body meet are substantially parallel for some distance, so that when the saddle as a whole is viewed in plan, as shown in Fig. 2, the ends of the ellipse which represents the outline of 5 the major portion of the body and cantle are slightly flattened.
I claim- The design for a bicycle-saddle, substan tially as herein shown and described.
