UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM S. NOYES, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A SPROCKET-WHEEL AND CHAIN GUARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,069, dated May 18, 1897.
Application filed March 9, 1897. Serial No. 626,685. Term of patent 3 1' years.
To (ZZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM S. NoYEs, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Sprocket-Wheel and Chain Guards or Shields forBicycles, of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a guard embodying my design. Fig. 2 is a transverse section thereof.
The leading feature of my design consists in aplain or smooth exterior surfaced flanged margin and skeleton connecting web for a chain and sprocket guard for safety-bicycles. A guard or shield of my design consists of a marginal frame A, the edges of which are continuous and unbroken or smooth, said margin having a flange A, which projects laterally therefrom in a direction, when applied to a bicycle, to cover the driving-chain thereof.
A guard or shield embodying my design is provided at its forward end with a circular web A the rear side of which is connected with the marginal frame A by webs or braces a.
As herein shown, the outline a defined by dot and dash, indicates the location of an ornamental bead following the circular contour of the web A and the dotted sectors a indicate the position of openings through said web. I regard the modifications so indicated as merely colorable and intend this application to cover any such changes as are evident and unimportant or subsidiary to the design per 56, and not liable to mislead or confuse.
I claim The design for a sprocket-wheel and driving-chain guard or shield for bicycles, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I hereunto set my hand, this 3d day of March, 1897, in the presence of two witnesses.
WILLIAM S. NOYES.
