Description

DESIGN.
H. H. ROUNTREE. SPROOKET WHEEL AND CHAIN GUARD. Q
No. 27,182. Y Patented June 8,1897.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRISON II. ROUNTREE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DESIGN FOR A SPROCKET-WHEEL AND CHAIN GUARD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 27,182, dated June 8, 1897'.
Application filed April 28, 1897. Serial No. 634,298. erm of patent 3% years- To (LZZ whom it may concern.-
Be it known that LHAREIsoN H. ROUNTREE, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Sprocket-\Vheel and Driving-Chain Guards or Shields for Bicycles,
' of which the following is a specification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of a guard or shield embodying my design. Figv 2 is a longitudinal sectional View thereof on the line 2 2 of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a transverse sectional View thereof on the line 3 3 of Fig. 1.
My present design embraces a marginal frame A, having an unbroken or smooth exterior surface and provided with a flange A, which projects laterally from the outer border of the frame A in aposition to cover the front sprocket and driving-chain of a bicycle when the guard is properly secured to the frame thereof.
The essential feature of my present design embodies a light ornamental border B within the marginal frame A and extending parallel with the edges thereof, said border, as shown,
comprising a series of small loops 1), which are attached to the inner edge of the marginal frame A, said loops 1) being connected by a series of bars Z), which curve inward away from the marginal frame.
At a proper point of the guard the opposite curved bars I) are connected by an open-work web or scroll B, the front edges 11 of which, in conjunction with the curved bars I) of the border B at the front end of the guard, define a circular opening or space, the rear edge 11 of said web or scroll B constituting the forward limit of a large somewhat flaring space, the longitudinal limits of which are defined by the curved bars Z), connecting the loops 1) along the longitudinal parts of the marginal frame A.
I claim The design for sprocket-wheel and chain guards, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I hereunto set my hand, this 21st day of April, 1897, in the presence of two witnesses.
HARRISON II. ROUN'IREE.
IVitnesses:
