DESIGN FOR A SPROCKET-WHEEL AND CHAIN GUARD.
To all 1071,0171, it nth/y concern:
Be it known that I, IVILLIAM S. NOYES, a
citizen of the United States, and a resident of Chicago, in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented and produced a new and original Design for SprocketJVheel and Chain Guards or Shields for Bicycles, of which the following is aspecification.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective of aguard embodying my design. Fig. 2 is a transverse section.
A guard or shield of my design consists of a marginal frame A, the edges of which are continuous or unbroken and which embodies a flange A, which projects laterally therefrom when applied to a bicycle to cover the chain. At its forward end said guard is provided with a ring or circular portion A the rear sides of which are connected with the marginal frame A by braces or webs a.
In the rear of the circular Web A of a guard or shield of my design the opposite sides of the marginal frame A are connected by a web of open-work, consisting of letters of the alphabet combined to form a word or words, together with an ornamental scroll as shown.
I claim The design for a sprocket-wheel and driving-chain guard or shield for bicycles, substantially as herein shown and described.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I hereunto set my hand, this 3d day of March, 1897, in the presence of two witnesses.
