HENRY A. HIRSCHFELD, OF WESTFIELD, MASSACHUSETTS.
DESIGN FOR A COFFlN-PLATE.
SPECIFICATION forming part Of Design No. 23,043, dated February 6, 1894.
Application filed January 10, 1894. Serial No, 496,435- Term of patent 3% years.
To aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY A. HIRSCHFELD,
a citizen of the United States, residing at stfield, in the county of Hampden and State of Massachusetts, have invented and produceda new and original Design for an Inscription-Plate for Burial-Gaskets, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, forming part thereof, in which the figure is a representation in front face View of the inscription-plate.
The leading feature of this design consists in the production of an inscription plate of a general oblong form with a suitable space at one end, set off by a divisional demarcation, or border, for the accommodation of an emblematic device, or configuration while the remaining and major portion of the plate is for the inscription pertaining to the particular individual deceased, and all whereby upon a single plate there may be placed, as called for, the emblematic device or configuration and the personal inscription, each within a separate compartment therefor, having, marginally, chaste and fanciful ornamentation.
In the drawing, A represents the plate, as awhole, having the rounded corners, a, a,-B being the larger space allotted for the personal inscription, while indicates the minor space at the left end for the emblematic configuration. At each vertical border of the space, C, is a series of pearls, b, 17, while the upper and lower borders of space, B, are also similarly pearled, as seen at 12 The struck up double scroll, d, forms the ornamentation of the right-hand end border of the space, E, while similar, though somewhat smaller, scrolls, d (1 form the ornamentation of the border spaces above and below the space 0.
The Masonic configuration shown in space 0 constitutes no part of the present design and the pearls at b, b may be omitted without departing from the essentials of the present design, the marginal portions whereupon the pearling is seen being rendered measurably ornamental by reason of being outwardly and downwardly beveled, and having the sub border atfif, and f What I claim is- The, design for an inscription plate for caskets, substantially as shown and described.
HENRY A. HIRSOHFELD.
