P. AUGENBRAUN.
BILLIARD TABLE.
No. 22,594. Patented July 4, 1893.
ATT ST) UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
PETER A'UGENBRAUN, OF STAMFORD, CONNEUTIUU'I, ASSIGNOR TO THE BRUNSWICK-liALKE-(JOLLENDER OMPANY, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
DESIG N FOR A Bl LLlARD-TABLE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,594, dated July 4, 1893. Application filed September 24, 1892. Serial No. 446,837. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, PETER AUGENBRAUN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stain ford, in the county of Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Billiard-Tables, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
Figure 1, is a side View, or elevation, of a billiard table comprising my design. Fig. 2, is an end View of the same.
The leading, or characteristic feature of my design consists in the concave broad-rails of the table, which, irrespective of the precise nature of the superficial ornamentation of the table-body, give the table a novel appearance.
A are the broad-rails of the table; 13, the usual cushion-rails; and, C the legs.
The cushion rails may be made of about the usual appearance, with any desired pattern of superficial ornamentation, and the lower edges of the broad-rails A are provided, or formed, with a narrow, depending, apron, or ornamental fillet, as seen at e.
In carrying into eifect my new design of table-body, I have sub-divided the concave surface of each side broad-rail into four, or five, and each end broad-rail into three members, by vertical lines, or bars, f, as shown; the spaces between said bars being superficially ornamented.
The legs 0 are composed of several members, as shown, all of which are circular, in horizontal section, except the member g,which is square, in horizontal section, and is made with two opposite edges turned, or scrolled, over, while the other two are thinner and fiat;
and the several members of the leg are carved, or otherwise ornamented superficially, as may be desired. The square member g, at the top of the leg, and the circular, or round, members thence down to the feet of the legs, give to the leg of the table a striking and novel appearance, and this peculiar design of leg forms a secondary feature of my new design.
lleretofore the bodies of tables have been made flat, with their planes either vertically, or obliquely, arranged; they have also been made convex; and sometimes of ogee shape; but in my new design of table the broad-rail is concave, as shown, the curve being, almost semi-circular, and such that the lower edge of the broad-rail is located inwardlyof aperpendicular line, let fall from the upper edge of the rail.
What I claim is-- 1. The design herein shown, for the body portion of the table, consisting, essentially, in broad rails, or sides, which are concave.
2. The design of leg shown, consisting, essentially, of a top member which is square, in horizontal section, and a series of lower members all of which are circular in contour.
3. The design, for the body-portion and legs of the table, consistingin a body-portion the broad-rails, or sides of which are concave; and legs each of which consists, essentially, of a top member which is square in horizontal section, and aseries of lower members all of which are circular in contour.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 27th day of August, 1892.
PETER AUGENBRAUN.
In presence of-- P. M. CUNNINGHAM, JOHN FITZPATRIOK.
