FIP:
DESIGN.
B. B. GOLDSMITH. LEAD PENCIL.
No. 22,511. Patented June 6, 1893.
o 1, 1,1, of the mantle, are
UNTTED STATES BYRON BENJAMIN GOLDSMITH, OF NE\V YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A LEAD-PENCIL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,51 1, dated June 6,1893.
Appiiuatiuu filed Fehruary 17,1393. Sci-i To all whom it may concern.-
lie it known that l, HYnoN BENJAMIN Gono- SMITH, a citizen of the l'nited States, and a resident of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Lead-Pencils, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1, represents a cross-section, and Fig. 2, a perspective view of a lead pencil showing my design.
The leading feature of my design consists in the generally triangular form of the mantle of the lead pencil, the triangle being equi lateral, but the sides, instead of being straight, are formed with obtuse re-entering angles, so that the cross-section of the lead-pencil presents a figure which is inscribed in an equilateral triangle.
In the drawings, the three projecting edges shown as formed by 2.1 No. 462.776. Term of patent 7 years the intersection of the sides .3, 2, of the re-entcring angles 3, 3, 3, and the latter again are formed by the intersections of the projecting edges 1, 1, 1. In this manner there are produced six flat faces, variously inclined toward each other, but which at the same time are grouped about the lead or graphite i, in a symmetrical order or sequence, by which a new zesthetie effect is produced.
\Vhat I claim is The design for a lead pencil, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
substantially BYRON BENJAMIN thihhstill'lll.
Witnesses:
MICHAEL J. CANNON, Jenn t. SKELLY.
