Description

AU 2903 EX QR 0022513 FIP:
DESIGN.
B. B. GEFSMITH.
LEAD PENCIL.
No. 22,513. Patented June 6 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BYRON BENJAMIN GOLDSMITH, OF NE\V YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A LEAD-PENCIL.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,513, dated June 6, 1893. Application filed February 17, 1893. Serial NG 62|7781 Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern.-
lie it known that I, Brncx BENJAMIN (tonnsMI'rH, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of New York, in the county and State of New York, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Leadlencils, of which the following is a specification.
Figure 1, represents a cross-section, and Fig. 2, a perspective view of a lead pencil showing my design.
be leading feature of my design consists in the star-shaped mantle of the leadpeneil, that is to say, the cross-section of the lead pencil has the shape of a star of the conventional form, with alternating salient and re-entering angles formed by intersecting straight lines.
In the drawings the salient angles 1, 1, 1, &c., are shown as formed by the intersection of the sides 2, 2, 850., of the reenter-lug angles 3, 23, &e., all uniformly spaced and shaped, so that the cross-section of the mantle may be looked upon as a regular polygon, the sides of which, instead of being straight, are formed with re-eutering angles; these will generally be obtuse angles, while the salient angles will always be acute angles and thereby produce upon the observer the impression of a conventional star. In the center of the star mantle is the lead or graphite l, which has thus symmetrically grouped about it the inclined flat faces 2', 2, 2', by which the :esthetic effect aimed at is produced.
\Vhat I claim is The design for a lead pencil, as herein shown and described.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
liY RON llENJ A MIN GOLDSM IIII.
