Description

DESIGN.
J. JACOBS.
LENS FOR VAULT LIGHTS.
No. 22,390. Patented May 2, 1893.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JACOB JACOBS, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
DESIGN FOR A LENS FOR VAULT-LIGHTS.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 22,390, dated May 2, 1893.
Application filed March 31, 1893. Serial Nu.468,573- Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JACOB JACOBS, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York city, in the county of New York, and in the State of New York, have invented a certain new and useful Design for a Lens for Vault- Lights, 800.; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 shows a plan view of a lens or glass formed in accordance with my design, and Fig. 2, a view of a cross-section of the same on line :1:, w, of Fig 1.
Letters of like name and kind refer to like parts in each of the figures.
The object of my invention has been to provide a new, useful and original design for a glass or lens, such as is used in vault lights and illuminating tiles, and to this end myinvention consists in the design substantially as hereinafter specified and shown in the drawings.
My special purpose has been to so form the upper portion, or that part of the lens or glass, which is exposed to view, at the surface of the finished light or tile, that it will produce an ornamental and pleasing effect. With such purpose in view. I make the said portion of each lens of the form shown in the drawings, in which A designates the body or main part of the lens or glass, and A that portion which comes flush with or just above the exposed surface of the cement or other material, in which the lenses of vault lights or illuminating tiles are ordinarily secured. The edge of part A, is formed with a series of V-shaped notches awhich are placed close together, so as to leave angular pointed projections a between them. The bottoms of said notches are substantially straight lines, which, extending downward and outward to the outer edge of part A, are situated in radial planes. When a lens or glass, so formed, is embedded in the cement or other holding material in a vault light or illuminating tile,
its exposed upper or outer part A shows around its edge aseries of oppositely inclined facets, while the edge of its upper or outer surface is formed on awaveline. The result JACOB JACOBS.
