Inventor George I Mendel 6 his'flltam ya Witnesseswulmibfiw 26W UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
GEORGE F. HENSEL, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
DESIGN FOR A FRINGE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No, 16,724, dated June 8, 1886.
Application lied March 15, 1880. Serial). 195,351. Term of patent I To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that 1, Gnonon F..HEssEL,' a citizen of the United States, residing in Phila delphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a certain new and original Design for Ornamental Fringe, of which the following is a specification.
My design for a fringeis fully shown in the accompanying drawings, Figures 1, 2, and 3 of which represent variations in the detail of design, but all embody its main-or distinguishing features, Fig. 4 being an enlarged view illustrating more clearly than the other figures the essential features of the design.
The design relates to the heading A, the iris ing-threads, which project beyond the be ing, being either looped or free at the ends, as desired.
The design comprises the upper and lower close bands, 0 b, and a central open-work band, d, which forms the leading feature of the design. This band has cross-pillarsarand longitudinal bar or bars y, each of the latter consisting of bands 10 11/, the band w passing across and concealing part of the face of each pillar x, and the band 10 passing behindand being concealed by each pillar, but concealing the face-band w between the pillars, as clearly shown in the enlarged view,
Fig. 4, the pillars being contracted in width where the hands cross the same. The crosspillars are preferably ofsuch strands that they present a solid effect, the individual strands of which the pillars are composed not being noticeable.
The number of longitudinal bars and the character of the cross-pillars may be varied without departing from the emential features of the design.
I claim The within-described design for a fringe heading, said design consisting of npper and lower close hands and an intervening open work hand having cross-pillars :v and longitudinal bands w w, the band 10 concealing a portion of the face of each pillar, and the band w being concealed by said pillars, but concealing the'faeeband 10 between the pi]- lars, each pillar being contracted where the bands cross the same, all substantially as described and shown.
In testimony whereof Ihave signed my name to this specification in the presenceof two subscribing witnesses.
GEORGE F. HENSEL.
