DESIGN FOR THE ORNAMENTATION OF KEYS.

SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 16,564, dated March 9, 1886,

Application filed December 31, 1885. Serial No. 187,308. Term of patent 7 years.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, FRANK WKMIX, a citizen 0f the United States, residing at New Britain, in the county of Hartford and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced a new and original Design for the Ornamentation of a Key, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawing.

My invention relates to a design for the ornamentation of a key; and it consists in ornamental chasing or marks, eitherraised or depressed, formed on the barrel of the key; and it further consists in the peculiar shape of the handle, which is formed with trefoil ends, its center being provided with an elongated opening having centrally-located transepts, a raised ornamental finish being formed around the edges of the opening and around the outer edges of the handle, and an arc-shaped band, which forms an ornamental finish to the central portion of the edge of the handle.

The accompanying drawing represents a View of the key in perspective.

A represents the barrel of the key, provided with the ornamental chasing or marks a.

B represents the handle, having the trefoil ends b, the elongated opening C, with the transepts c, the ornamental borders D and 01, located around the edges of the openings C c and the outer edge of the handle, respectively, and the ring-band E.

- Having fully described my design, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A design for the ornamentation of a key,

consisting of a key-handle transverse to the barrel, and having trefoil-shaped ends and a central opening, substantially as shown.

2. A design for the ornamentation of a key, 0 consisting of a key-handle transverse to the i barrel, having trefoil shaped end, the elongated opening, and the centrally-located transepts, substantially as shown.

3. In a design for a key, the ornamentationgy of the same, consisting in ornamental ohasings or marks on the barrel thereof, and the handle transverse to the said barrel and having trefoil ends and a central opening, substantially as shown.
