Description

UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN L. POPE, OF CLEVELAND, OHIO.
DESIGN FOR A CARRIAGE-STEP.
SPECIFICATION formingpart. of Design No. 13,422, dated November 14, 1882.
Application filed August 2, 1882. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I. JOHN L. POPE, ofUleveland, in the county of Uuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design forO-arriage-Steps, ofwhich the following is a. specification, reference being had totheaccompanyingphotographicillustration, forming part thereof.
'llnsinvention relates to a new design forearriage-steps; and it consists in ornamenting the tops or upper surface thereof with raised lines or work and forming a series of connecting star-shaped figures, as will hereinafter be more particularly specified and claimed.
In the accompanying photograph it will be observed that the raised rib-work of the carriage-step is so disposed or placed as to form a number of adjoining star figures, a peculiarity of which is that every one of the sides or angles of each star is made to form a side or a portion of some other star adjacent, the general effect of all of which is the appearance of a number of diamond-shaped figures running in almost every direction.
At (L will be found the center of one star, which forms six radiating diamond-shaped figures, b b,&c.,and in whicheverdirection theeyes are now turned they will observe an adjoining similarly-shaped star figure; and stars so made up of this ribbed work may be readily traced out to near the edges of the step, where there is a raised border-line running around the whole extent thereof and forming obtuse angles at each corner.
Nhat I claim as my new design, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
A design for a carriage-step, consisting of a series of adjoining stars made up of raised or ribbed work, substantially as shown and described.
In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand this 31st day of May, 1882.
JOHN L. POPE.
In presence of- A. A. P PE, G. M. Corr.
