Description

PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN L. POPE, OF.CIEVELAND, OHIO.
DESIGN Foa A STEP-PAD.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 13,638, dated February 20, 1883.
A pplication filed November 28, 1882.
To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, JOHN L. POPE, of Cleveland, in the county of Cuyahoga and State of Ohio, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Step-Pads, of which the following is a. specification, reference being had to the accompanying photograph, making a part thereof.
My invention relates to a design for steppads, such as used on carriages and other vehicles; and it consists in certain features 0t` ornamentation, which will be hereinafter more tully described, and particularly pointed out in the claims hereof'. l
In the photograph which accompanies this speciliuation is illustrated, in top view, a steppad embracing the features of my new design. The general shape of the step is rectangular, and all around its sides and ends, quite near the edges, runs a raised border, to which I have applied the letter a. The space inclosed by this border I have beautitied by employing bars or ribs and arranging them diagonally ot' the plate, so as to form a. series of rows ot' contiguous diamond-shaped tigures, b, when viewed from eitherthesidesor ends oftheplate, and rows or columns ot' square-shaped figures when viewed from any ot' the four corners of the pad or plate, as plain upon visual inspec Term of patent 14 years.
tion of the photograph. I have perforated each one of the tigures b, and have thereby considerably improved the appearance ot' the article, yet a plate maybe made without these perforations and still retain the gist of my novel design, which rests particularly in the employment of ribs or bars forming a series of adjoining figures, such as indicated by the letter b. The intersecting bars forming the ligures marked b are, as will bc observed, beveled from the top downward and outward.
Vhat I therefore claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Design Letters Patent, is-
1. A step-pad of substantially the design shown and described.
f2. A step-pad the upper surface of which has ornamentation composed of figures substantially like those marked with the letter b.
3. A step-pad the upper surface of which is ornamented with figures substantially like those marked b, and with a raised border substantially like that marked a.
In witness whereot' I have hereunto set my hand this 16th day ot' November, 1882.
JOHN L. POPE.
