SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 12,449, dated September 6, 1881.
Application liled July I1. 195].
To I! whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ELIJAH (.HETWYND, of Trenton, in the county of Mercer and State of New Jersey, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Dinner-Ware, of which the following is a specification.
in the accompanying drawings. Figure 1 is a perspective view of a covered dish made according to my new design. Fig. 2 is a plan view of the same.
The cover A is oval, and has a ledge, B, and a shoulder, B, above it, along its edge. The vessel or body C of the dish has a straight collar or hand, D, at its upper edge, and from the lower edge of this band the body of the vessel is swelled outward, and isthen contracted on a gently-curved line, which at the base passes abruptly into a concave line of the base E, provided with a bead, F.
The handles consist of two short longitudinally-fluted rods, G, inclined toward each other, and having their upper ends connected by a like tinted rod, the ends of these rods being surrounded by leaf ornamentation H.
A leaf ornamentation or palmetto ornamentation, J, is arranged on the lid or on the dish, where the same and the ends of the rods G are united. The space between the inclined rods is filled in with a plate, K, with a recess or depression, L, in its upper edge, which recess forms the aperture of the handle.
The above-described design is not only to be used for covered dishes, but for soup-tureens,
