Description

UNITED STATES ALBERT WAGNER, OF NEW YORK,
N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO J. ESTEY 8'. 00., OF
BRATTLEBOROUGH, VT.
DESIGN FOR Ala ORGAN-CASE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 11,742,
dated April 20, 1880.
Application filed February 3, 1880. Term of patent 14 years.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALBERT \VAGNER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented or produced a new and original Design for Organ-Cases, (style 330,) which I have assigned to J. Estey & 00., and of which the following is a specification.
My improved case relates to what are known as chapel-organ cases, the back being finished as well as the front; and in its general features it resembles the case patented to J. Estey 8t 00., May 8, 1877, by Design Patent No. 9,958, differing from that, however, in that the back is nearly flat, instead of being shaped in imitation of the front.
In the accompanying photographic illustrations, Figure 1 is a perspective view of the front of an organ-case made after my design; and Fig. 2 is a similar view of the rear of the same.
- Let A A designate the ends of the case, and B the intervening body, of which latter0 is the front board, and D the back board. The ends A A project considerably above the body B, and are' surmounted by flower-stands a a, while below a horizontal bar-handle, b,extends across from stile to stile. The body B of the case extends between the ends in aseries of straight lines. Generally speaking, these features are shown in the patent hereinbefore referred to.
I provide each end A with a cornice or molding, d, upon which I superimpose a top piece, 0, of thinner material than the end below the cornice, and I form the top piece with a small upward projection at front and rear, and with a higher central projection, which bears the flower-stand a.
E is the console or key-board bracket arranged against and extending forward om th. 1nd A, and made solid opposite the end of the key-board, as usual, and somewhat open below, being there composed of a vertical prismatic front bar, f, rectangular in cross-section, and insulated by openings g and h from a rear bar, i, which is planted against the front stile of the end A. Opposite the top of the bar j are, j, depends from the solid portion of the bracket. The base-board of the end A is shown as continued out under the bracket E.
k is a lamp-stand, supported on abracket, l.
The front board, 0,is divided into three pan els, which are embellished by a series of parallel stripes, and bya series of equal-sided tlgnres,as shown, interposed equidistautly between some of the stripes.
F is the front of the key-board projection,
each formed of close parallel lines,
which is embellished by one or more elongated openings containing a design which consists of a series of diversified X-shaped figures, as shown, crossing the opening at equal distances part.
G is the lid, which is crossed longitudinally by parallel linear strips, as shown.
On top of the body B of the case, and between its elevated ends A A, I place a root angular music-rack, m, flanked by strips 0 c, which extend to the ends A A. The rack in and strips 0 c are set edgewise in the same vertical plane, and are arranged in a plane intermediate of the front and back of the case. The music-rack projects considerably higher than the strips, is provided with end stiles surmounted by knobs, and has a serrated or invected upper edge. It is also ornamented by a row of perforations flanked by parallel lines or stripes. The strips 0 c, which answer to the similarly-placed strip in Design Patent No. 9958, before referred to, are shown as provided with closely-arranged vertical openlugs.
The backboard, I), is divided by a transom and mullions into a horizontal opening or recessed panel, B, above, and vertical panels I I below. The transom and mullions are ornamented with longitudinal stripes p p of parallel lines.
The panel or openiugH is embellished with a series of rectangular outlines vertically arranged, aud a quadrangularfigure placed cornet-wise within each. I contemplate substituting an open-work panel for the opening H,
the rectangular outlines being openings, and the quadrangular figures being solid ornaments inserted within the openings. I also contemplate bringing the open-work panel and its surrounding frame out in advance of the remainder of the back board, D.
The center panel I is embellished with two parallel stripes of lines and dots, and in its center with a rosette arranged within a rectitudinally upon its surface,
linear outline. The side panels I I are each ornamented with a diagonal stripe, which consists of a row of small circular figures flanked by parallel lines, and from each side of the stripe branches a spiral' line or similar figure.
J J are vertical bars or posts, which cover the rear faces of the ends A A and extend from about on a level with the top of the body B down to the floor, passing over or across the base-board.
Having thus described my new design, I claim the following as its novel features:
1. The design for an organ-case, consisting of the elevated end A, having a cornice or molding, d, and surmounted by a top piece, e, substantially as shown in the accompanying photographs.
2. The design for an organ-ease, consisting of the top piece, e, of thinner material than the end A, superimposed thereupon and bearing the flower-stand a, substantially as shown in the accompanying photographs.
3. The design for the key-board bracket E of an organ-case, consisting of the upright bars f and i, insulated from each other by openings 9 and h, substantially as shown in Fig. 1 of the accompanying photographs.
4. The design for .the key-board bracket E of an organ-ease, consisting of the straight prismatic ,bar f, partially insulated by openings from the parts behind it, and the roll 9', depending in front of it from the solid portion of the bracket, substantially as shown in Fig. 1 of the accompanying photographs.
5. The designfor the front board, 0, of an organ-case, which consists of a series of parallel stripes with intervening spaces, each of said stripes consisting of a series of close parallel lines, substantially as shown in Fig. 1 ot' the accompanying photographs.
6. The design for the front bogrd, U, of an organ-case, which consists of three panels crossed vertically and horizontally with equidistant parallel stripes of close-lines, substantially as shown in Fig. 1 of the accomnanving hotographs.
7. The design for the outer panels of the front board, 0, of an organ-case, which consists of vertical stripes, with a series of interveningeqnal-sided l1 gures equidistantly arranged, substantially as shown in Fig. 1 of the accompanying photographs.
8. The design for the front I of the keyboard projection of an organ-case, consisting of an elongated horizontal panel crossed at regular intervals by a series of outlines of substnntially X shape, as shown in Fig. 1 of the accompanying photographs.
9. The design for the lid of an organ-case, consisting of parallel stripes arranged longisubstantially as shown in Fig. 1 of the accompanying photographs.
10. The design foran organ-case,consisting of the body 13, the ends A A,extending above the some, and th music-rack m, arranged upon the body 1) ween the ends and flanked by the strips 0 0, extending to the ends, sub' stantially as shown in the accompanying photographs.
11. The design for an organ-case, consisting of the body B, having a finished front and a finished hack, the elevated ends A A, projecting prominently above the top of the body, and the music-rack m, arranged upon the top of the body midway between the elevated ends .and in a plane intermediate of the front and back of the body, substantially as shown in the accompanying photographs.
