UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ABRAHAM GORDON, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNORJBY MESNE ASSIGNMENTS, TO FIREPROOF IRONING BOARD CO., OF NEW YORK, N. Y., A CORPORATION.
IRONING-BOARD.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ABRAHAM GORDON, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Brooklyn, in the county of Kings and State of New York, have invented a new and Imroved Ironing-Board, of which the followin is a full, clear, and exact description.
y invention relates to metallic ironing boards, and the object of the invention is to produce a board comprisin a table, a. base frame, and supporting and bracing members between the table and base frame, the several mentioned elements having novel features in various respects, as will be hereinafter more particularly explained in the specific description.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of an ironing board embodying my invention; Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical sect-ion; Fig. 3 is a cross section; and Fig. 4 is a horizontal section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
The oblong base frame 10 is formed of angle iron and is of rectangular shape, presenting a bottom flange or member 11 and a vertical flange 12. The table 13 is supported from the frame 10 by spaced upright frames 14 which are formed also of angle iron, and the members of which are so disposed that one flange 15 extends around the frame in unbroken continuity, and the inwardly projecting flange 16 is mitered, it being understood that port-ions of the flange 16 are removed for bending to the mitered form. The table 13 rests on the inwardlyprojecting upper terminals 17 of the frames 14, while the lower angles of the said frames 14 are received in the angles of the base frame 10. At each end of the board struts 18 are provided, extending diagonally from the ends of the base frame 10 to the under surface of the table 13, said struts terminating at the upper end in horizontal members 19, disposed in line with the upper surface of the members 17 of the uprights 14, while the lower ends of the struts 18 have similar Specification of Letters Patent.

members 20 disposed vertically and lie against the inner surface of the upright flange 12 of the base frame. In practice, the
base frame, the uprights and the struts are welded to each other, and the table 13 is welded in place.
The described construction provides a light ironing board, involving small cost in its manufacture and possessing great durability.
It will be observed that the table 13 is down-turned at the edge, and said edge is essentially concavo-convex in cross section,
not only to give a finished appearance, but
to make it less likely that the edge will wear through the cloths .with which it is customary to cover ironing boards.
Having thus described my invention, I
claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
A metallic ironing board comprising a table, an oblong base frame formed of an le iron having one flange thereof disposed 1nwardly and horizontally at the bottom of the frame and the other flange of the angle iron disposed vertically, an le iron frames in fixed relation to the base rame and table and disposed vertically at points near the ends of the table and at the center thereof,
table, and fixed struts outside of the vertical end frames and inclined inwardly and upwardly, each strut having one flange bent into parallelism at its lower end with the vertical flange of the adjacent end members of the base frame, and said flange of the strut having the upper end extending inwardly in a horizontal plane and ying against the under side of the table and abutting the adjacent vertioal frame.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name to this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ABRAHAM GORDON.
