Description

BEST AVALBLE @OPN Brac No. 11,664. Patented Mur.
wf i,
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN A. LIEB, OF NEWARK, NEW JERSEY.
DESIGN FOR A BRACELET.
To all whom t may concern Beit known that I, JOHN A. LIEB, of Newark, county of Essex, and State of New Jersey, have originated and designed a Pattern for Bracelets or like articles, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, which represents a face view ot' my design.
My design is applicable to bracelets ornapkin-rings; and it consists of two lapping annular parallel arrangements of crossin g oblique bars pivoted together at their ends and centers after the fashion of the device known as lazy-tongs,77 the bars of each ot' said arrangements overlapping and pivoted to the bars of the other, so as to present the appearance of two annular lazy-tongs, the salient angles of which, at one side of each. overlap those of the other as far as the centers of the spaces inclosed by the bars.
In the drawing', the letter A indicates an arrangement of a double series of oblique bars crossing each otherand pivoted togetherat their ends and centers, and theletter A' designates a similar arrangement of bars, the salient angles b ot' one of said arrangements overlapping the salient angles b of the other, and the crossing bars of the separate arrangements are pivoted together at c. The angles of each arrangement of bars extend to the centers of the spaces inclosed by the bars of the other arrangement;
and while the bars which incline in one direction are on the outside of those which they cross and to which they are pivoted, those which incline in the opposite direction are, of course, on the inside, so that the whole has the effect of being interlaced. By the overlapping and pivoting together ot these two lazy-ton gs arrangements ot' oblique bars I obtain anovel and readily distinguishable design applicable to bracelets or napkin-rings.
I am aware that a single annular lazy-tongs arrangement ot' bars has been used for a bracelet, and also for a finger-ring, and such I do not claim.
What- I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The design for a bracelet or similar article of jewelry, the same consisting of the two parallel annular oblique bars overlapping each other laterally and pivoted together where their bars cross each other, the salient angles of one extending to the centers of the inclosed spaces of the other, substantially as described, and shown in the accompanying drawing.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 10th day ot' December, 1879.
