CHARLES W. LORD, OF PAWTUOKET, RHODE ISLAND.
BRACELET.
SPECIFICATION forming part, of Letters Patent No. 357,326, dated February 8, 1887.
Application lcil September 9, 1885. Serial No.176,643. (N o model.)
.To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES, W. LORD, of Pawtucket, in the county of Providence and State of Rhode Island, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Bracelets and Similar Articles; and I do hereby declare'the following l.spec-ilication, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, forming a part of the same, to be a description thereof.
The invention consists in a bracelet or similar article, the back member of which has its edges turned over or bent to form hook portions, .and the front member of which has its edges turnedv over or bent to form hook portions, the two members being held in a txed relation to each other by the engagement of their hook portions, whereby a bracelet of any desired thickness can be made and-the front member be held in a desired relation to the face of the bracelet without the interposition of a lling between the back and front members, as hereinafter described and claimed.
l In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 shows aside view and partial section ofa bracelet embodying the invention. Fig. 2 shows an end View of the same. Fig. 3 represents, on a larger scale, a transverse section of the same,'
the edges of the back member being bent into circular form. Fig. 4 shows a transverse section of a bracelet embodying the invention, with the edges of the back member bent into rectangular form. Fig. 5 represents a transverse section of a bracelet, with the edges of the back member bent into triangular form.
A is the back member, which is bent or arranged to form the lining a, the sides a', and portions a2 of the face of the bracelet. The edges of the back member are turned over or bent to form hook portions a3 afor engaging the front member and holding it suspended in Y place.
B is the front member, which has its edges turned over or bent to form hook portions b b, which engage the hook portions ai a? of the back member and hold the two members in the desired relation to each other.
In the manufacture of thebracelet the back and front members are preferably separately formed into proper shape, and then combined by sliding the member Bendwise into the member A, the hook portions a3 a3 b b engaging each other, and thereby hooking or suspending the front member in a fixed relation to the back or lining a and the face portions a2 ofthe member A, as shown in all the figures of thek drawings.
By hooking the front member to the back member, as above described, a box bracelet of any thickness may be made and the front member be held inthe desired relation tothe lining, a and face portions a2 of the back member, without the iuterposition of any lilling material between the two members to hold the front member in the desired place, as will be readily understood.
I am aware that thin or band7 bracelets have been made having the edges of the back member turned over parallel with the body portion thereof, so as to furnish grooves into which a dat-face member,or one with unturned edges, can be slid, and I do not claim such a construction, the two members not being hooked to each other, or, in other words, the front member not being suspended by and upon the back member by the engagement of hooked portions on the edges of each member.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
, 1. As a new article of manufacture, a brace- CHARLES W. LORD.
