Specification forming part of Design No. 11,136, dated April 1, 1879; application filed February 26, 1879.

Be it known that I, DAVID MCNAIR, ot' Boston, in the count)v ot Suffolk and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and original Design for Carpets, of which the following is a specifica-tion The nature of my design is shown in the accompanying photographic illustration and it consists iu the arrangement and configuration which 1 will now describe, referring to said photographic illustration, in whicha a a, &c., represent a series of figures which extend in rows along the piece, the figures in one row alternating with those in the adjoining rows, as shown. Each figure a is generall)v rectangular in shape, (excepting at its oorners, which are formell with reentrant :ingles,) and is provided with a central ornament resembling a sprnY ol' leaves. c c, ie., repre sent approximately elliptical figures alternatingr with the figures n, and fg represent border-like figures extending between the figures a and e in two directions, as shown. On the groundwork of the carpet, between the figures a, are floral designs arranged to give the effect ot' lines or rows ot fiowers, b b b b and c c c c, extcndin g diagonally across the piece, and broken or interrupted by the figures a c.

I claim- 1. The design for carpets, consisting of' the figures ay and e and the borderlhke tiguresfg, substantially as shown.

2. The design for carpets, consisting of the figures a` and c and the lioial designs b c, suhstautially as shown.
