Be it known thntLCHARLEs KURFIss, of the city of Louisville, Vconty of Jefferson, and State of Kentucky, have invented a new and'useful Improvement in Sofa-Lounges;V and l do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawing, and to the letters of reference marked thereon; making part of this specification..

This invention relates to the construction and arrangement of thefi'ame and 'extension device in that class of loungesthat is convertible into aV bed,.c'om bining strength,- simplicity, and cheapness, with a neat.

R is made of wooden slats, about three or four inches wide, and placed about the same distance apart both above and below, forming a box, I, enclosed at one end by the hack of the lounge G, to which they are attached, and at the other by the-facing of the lounge, cut in a corresponding shape, which forms a box of sufficient dimensions 'to retain the bedding of the lounge. l

The extension part L of the elvated head-rest R is also made of wooden slats, corresponding in sizefrwith the spaces between theslats H H H H on the stationary head-piece R, between which they slide on a rebate, when necessary to be closed up,the front ends of which are attached to the facing of the lounge in front, to which is also attached the cover of the bedding case. I, which slides' in a groove in tllenpper edge of t-he slats, andV acts as a guide orsupport'to theheadpiece L, in connection with the dovet-ailgslideN on the head of the frame E, on which it is drawn out when ex tended, riving strength to the extension device, and

The upholstered cushions, whenjt-he lounge is oomplete, are built on the framesEand F, and permanently, except the pillow part o n frame E, which is made to fold down on the mattress or 'cushion when folded up and does not interfere -withfolding, as it and the cushion `fold 'under into the box below formed bythe frame A and 4B, and 'after which' the elevatedl head-rest L is closed up. by sliding in onV the slats H H H 1I, forming acomplete finish tothe face of the` lounge headrest, und closes up the bedding easel bythe cover K, and when it is desirable to convert the lounge into al bed, all that is necessary is to raise up the framewith the cushions, and unhook the frame and cushion F below, and -turn it out, and let down the folding legs D D, by which it is supported when l extended, and draw out the elevated head-rest L, and a complete bed isV formed, without thetrouhle ofremoving cushions and bedding in order to prepare it for use.
